And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.
You [O Lord] make darkness and it becomes night, in which creeps forth every wild beast of the forest.
And God said, Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be signs and tokens [of God's provident care], and [to mark] seasons, days, and years,
And God made the two great lights -- "the greater light (the sun) to rule the day and the lesser light (the moon) to rule the night. He also made the stars.
To rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good (fitting, pleasant) and He approved it.
The moon and stars to rule by night, for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever;
While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
Desire not the night, when peoples are cut off from their places;
The watchman said, The morning comes, but also the night. [Another time, if Edom earnestly wishes to know] if you will inquire [of me], inquire; return, come again.
And the wild beasts of the desert will meet here with howling creatures [wolves and hyenas] and the [shaggy] wild goat will call to his fellow; the night monster will settle there and find a place of rest.
And its gates shall never be closed by day, and there shall be no night there.
And there shall be no more night; they have no need for lamplight or sunlight, for the Lord God will illuminate them and be their light, and they shall reign [as kings] forever and ever (through the eternities of the eternities).
