And certain ones of the scribes were sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

And Jesus immediately knowing in His spirit that they are thus reasoning among themselves, said to them, Why do you thus reason in your hearts?

and he was speaking and arguing against the Hellenists, and they undertook to kill him.

Where is the wise man? where is the scribe? where is the investigator of this age? has not God rendered the wisdom of the world foolishness?

because, knowing God, they did not glorify Him as God, neither were they thankful; but they became vain in their reasonings, and their foolish heart was darkened.
