Let the day perish in which I was born, and the night which said, There is a man-child conceived.
Why did I not die from the womb? Why did I not give up the spirit when my mother bore me?
Cursed be the day in which I was born. Let not the day in which my mother bore me be blessed.
Woe is me, my mother, that thou have bore me, a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have not lent, nor have men lent to me, [yet] every one of them curses me.
Why then have thou brought me forth out of the womb? I would have given up the spirit, and no eye had seen me.
Why did I come forth out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?
They answered and said to him, Thou were born entirely in sins, and thou teach us. And they cast him outside.
A [good] name is better than precious oil, and the day of death, than the day of birth.
