God, having spoken many times and in many ways in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
For the prophecy did not come in times past by the will of man, but the holy men of God spoke being inspired by the Holy Spirit.
And the LORD said unto him, Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes the dumb or the deaf or the seeing or the blind? Am not I the LORD? Now therefore go and I will be with thy mouth and teach thee what thou shalt say.

I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass that whoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. But the prophet which shall presume to speak a word in my name which I have not commanded him to speak or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken? When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not follow nor come to pass, it is a word which the LORD has not spoken, but the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; thou shalt not be afraid of him.
And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him and did not let any of his words fall to the ground. And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was a faithful prophet of the LORD. Thus the LORD appeared again in Shiloh, for the LORD manifested himself to Samuel in Shiloh with the word of the LORD.

I did not send those prophets, yet they ran; I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied. But if they had stood in my secret, they would also have caused my people to hear my words, and they would have caused them to return from their evil way and from the evil of their doings.

Then he said unto me, Son of man, go and enter into the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them. For thou art not sent to a people of a profound speech nor of a hard language, but to the house of Israel; not to many peoples of profound speech nor of hard language, whose words thou can not understand. Surely, had I sent thee to them, they would have hearkened unto thee. But the house of Israel will not desire to hear; for they do not desire to hear me: for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted. As diamond harder than flint I have made thy forehead: do not fear them, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house. Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears.
Therefore I have hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: that thy righteousness be as the light that goes forth.
And it shall come to pass after this that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: and even upon the slaves and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.
Because the Lord GOD will do nothing unless he reveals his secret to his slaves the prophets. The lion has roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD has spoken, who can but prophesy?
Are these not the words which the LORD has published by the former prophets when Jerusalem was inhabited and quiet and the cities thereof round about her and when the south and the plain were inhabited?
But God has thus fulfilled those things which he had showed in advance by the mouth of all his prophets, that his Christ should suffer.
