For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Where then is our boasting? It is excluded. On what law? On the law of works? No, but on the law of faith.
But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness." Now to him who works, his wages are not reckoned as a gift but as his due.
And if it is by grace, then it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise, grace would no longer be grace.
