Correct a scoffer and get dishonor for yourself. Rebuke a wicked man and receive insults. Correct a scoffer (mocker) (scorner) and he will hate you. Reprove a wise man and he will love you.

Proverbs 19:25

Strike a scoffer and the simple will be wary. Reprove someone who has understanding, and he will discern knowledge.

When the scoffer is punished the simple (naive) is made wise. When the wise is instructed he gains knowledge.

1 Corinthians 5:9-11
