30 Bible Verses about Sheol

What man is he who shall live and not see death, who shall deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah.

And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted, and he said, For I will go down to Sheol to my son mourning. And his father wept for him.

And if ye take this one also from me, and harm befall him, ye will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol.

Now therefore do not hold him guiltless, for thou are a wise man, and thou will know what thou ought to do to him, and thou shall bring his hoar head down to Sheol with blood.

The cords of Sheol were round about me. The snares of death came upon me.

He sends his word, and heals them, and delivers [them] from their destructions.

Let us swallow them up alive as Sheol, and whole, as those who go down into the pit.

Sheol, and the barren womb, the earth that is not satisfied with water, and the fire that does not say, Enough.

Thus says lord LORD: In the day when he went down to Sheol I caused a mourning. I covered the deep for him. And I restrained the rivers of it, and the great waters were stayed. And I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the tre I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall when I cast him down to Sheol with those who descend into the pit. And all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the nether p They also went down into Sheol with him to those who are slain by the sword, yea, those who were his arm, [that] dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the nations.

And he said, I called because of my affliction to LORD, and he answered me. Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, [and] thou heard my voice.

Shall thy loving kindness be declared in the grave, or thy faithfulness in destruction? Shall thy wonders be known in the dark, and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

For now I should have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept. Then I would have been at rest with kings and counselors of the earth, who built waste places for themselves, or with rulers who had gold, who filled their houses with silver.read more.
Or I should have been as a hidden untimely birth, as infants that never saw light. There the wicked cease from troubling, and there the weary are at rest. There the prisoners are at ease together. They do not hear the voice of the taskmaster. The small and the great are there. And the servant is free from his master.

As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away, so he who goes down to Sheol shall come up no more.

If I look for Sheol as my house, if I have spread my couch in the darkness, if I have said to corruption, Thou are my father, to the worm, My mother, and my sister, where then is my hope? And as for my hope, who shall see it?read more.
It shall go down to the bars of Sheol when once there is rest in the dust.

For in death there is no remembrance of thee. In Sheol who shall give thee thanks?

Sheol from beneath is moved for thee, to meet thee at thy coming. It stirs up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth. It has raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. They shall all answer and say to thee, Have thou also become weak as we? Have thou become like us? Thy pomp is brought down to Sheol, [and] the noise of thy viols. The worm is spread under thee, and worms cover thee.

For Sheol cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee. Those who go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

So they, and all that pertained to them, went down alive into Sheol. And the earth closed upon them, and they perished from among the assembly.

LORD kills, and makes alive. He brings down to Sheol, and brings up.

Drought and heat consume the snow waters, [and] Sheol [those who] have sinned.

Wicked men shall be turned back to Sheol, even all the nations that forget God.

Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I have called upon thee. Let the wicked be put to shame. Let them be silent in Sheol.

They are appointed as a flock for Sheol. Death shall be their shepherd, and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning. And their beauty shall be for Sheol to consume, that there be no habitation for it.

Let death come suddenly upon them. Let them go down alive into Sheol. For wickedness is in their dwelling, in the midst of them.

Yet thou shall be brought down to Sheol, to the utmost parts of the pit.

O that thou would hide me in Sheol, that thou would keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou would appoint for me a set time, and remember me!

For thou will not leave my soul to Sheol, nor will thou allow thy holy man to see corruption.

O LORD, thou have brought up my soul from Sheol. Thou have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me. Selah.

For great is thy loving kindness toward me, and thou have delivered my soul from the lowest Sheol.
