25 Bible Verses about State Of The Dead

The departed spirits tremble under the waters, and those who dwell in them.

When a wicked man dies, his hope shall perish; and the hope of evil ones shall be lost.

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no work, nor plan, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave where you go.

For the living know that they shall die; but the dead do not know anything, nor do they have any more a reward; for their memory is forgotten.

If a man fathers a hundred, and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, and his soul is not filled with good, and also is for him no burial; I say, a miscarriage is better than he. I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind; I am like a broken vessel.

For will You do wonders to the dead? Shall the dead rise and praise You? Selah. Shall Your loving-kindness be declared in the grave? Or Your faithfulness in ruin?

The dead do not praise Jehovah, nor do any who go down into silence.

For the grave cannot praise You, death can not rejoice in You; they who go down into the pit cannot hope for Your truth.

Unless Jehovah had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.

For a fire is kindled in My anger, and shall burn to the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with its increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.

Hear me quickly, O Jehovah; my spirit fails; do not hide Your face from me, lest I be like those who go down into the Pit.

For the enemy has pursued my soul; he has beaten my life down to the ground; he has made me dwell in darkness, as those long dead.

He has made me live in dark places, like the dead of old.

Than whom are you more lovely? Go down and be laid with the uncircumcised.

Yea, you shall be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shall lie with those slain with the sword.

The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with those who help him. They have gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword.

They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude. Her graves are all around him; all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword; though their terror was given in the land of the living, yet they have borne their shame with those who go down to the Pit. He is put among the slain.

And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, who have gone down to hell with their weapons of war. And they have put their swords under their heads, but their sins shall be on their bones, though they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living.

But you go on to the end, for you shall rest and stand in your lot at the end of the days.
