And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, because no one buyeth their merchandise any more; merchandise of gold and of silver, and of precious stones and of pearls, and of fine linen and of purple, and of silk and of scarlet; and all citron wood, and all manner of vessels of ivory, and all manner of vessels of most costly wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble; and cinnamon, and amomum, and odors, and ointment, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and cattle, and sheep; and merchandise of horses and chariots and slaves; and souls of men.
And he said also to the disciples, There was a certain rich man, who had a steward; and the same was accused to him as wasting his goods. And he called him, and said to him, What is this that I hear of thee? Give an account of thy stewardship; for thou canst be no longer steward. I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, I may be received into their houses. So he called to him every one of his lords debtors, and said to the first, How much dost thou owe my lord? And he said, A hundred measures of oil. And he said to him, Take thy bond, and sit down quickly, and write fifty. Then he said to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, A hundred measures of wheat. He saith to him, Take thy bond, and write eighty.
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures, saying, A quart of wheat for a denary, and three quarts of barley for a denary; and, Hurt not the oil and the wine.
I indeed baptize you in water, for repentance; but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to bear; he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire. His winnowingshovel is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshingfloor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
