So they were prejudiced against Him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is no where less honoured than in his own country, and in his own family. And he did not many miracles there, because of their unbelief.

And He went out from thence, and came into his own country, and his disciples attended Him: and when the sabbath was come, He began to teach in the synagogue: and many that heard Him were astonished, and said, From whence hath He these things? and what is this wisdom which is given unto Him, that even such mighty things are done by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here among us? and they were prejudiced against Him.read more.
But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is nowhere less honoured, than in his own country, and among his relations, and his own family. And He could do no miracle there, only laying his hands on a few sick people He healed them; and He was amazed at their unbelief. But he went about all the villages round, teaching.

But there were indeed false prophets among the people of old, as there will be also among you false teachers, who will privately introduce pernicious heresies, denying even the Lord that bought them, and bringing upon themselves swift destruction,

Then the high priest said to Him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us, if thou be the Christ, the Son of God. Jesus saith unto him, It is as thou hast said: and I tell you, hereafter ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy, what need have we more of witnesses? now ye have heard his blasphemy, what think ye?read more.
and they answered, He ought to be put to death. Then did they spit in his face, and beat Him about the head; and some struck Him with rods, saying, Divine to us, thou Christ, who it is that smote thee.

Who is a liar, if not he who denieth that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, that denieth the Father as well as the Son; for whosoever denieth the Son, hath not the Father: but he that confesseth the Son acknowledgeth the Father also.

but he held his peace, and made him no answer. So the high priest asked Him again, and saith to Him, Art thou the Messiah the Son of the blessed God? And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest rent his clothes and said, What farther need have we of witnesses?read more.
ye have heard the blasphemy; what think ye? and they all condemned Him as worthy of death. And they spit upon Him, and blind-folded Him, and then buffeted Him and said to Him, prophesy who it was: and the officers struck him with their rods.

But Peter said to Him, though all should be made to offend, yet will not I. And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I tell thee, that to day, even in this very night, before the cock crow twice thou wilt deny me thrice.

And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people, and chief-priests, and scribes, assembled together, and ordered Him up into their council: and said to Him, Art thou the Messiah? tell us. And He said unto them, If I should tell you, ye would not believe: and if I should put any question to you, ye would not answer me, nor discharge me.read more.
But hereafter shall the Son of man be seated on the right hand of the power of God. And they all said, Art thou then the Son of God? And He said unto them, I am. And they said, What need have we of any farther evidence? when we ourselves have it from his own mouth?

Then saith Jesus unto them, Ye will all take offence at me this night; for it is written, "I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered:" but after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. But Peter answered and said to Him, though they should all be offended in thee, yet will I never be offended.read more.

And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and according to his custom He went into the synagogue on the sabbath-day, and stood up to read. and to preach the acceptable year of the Lord." And He folded up the book, and gave it again to the minister, and sat down: and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed upon Him. And He said unto them, this day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. And they all bare witness to Him, and wondered at the gracefulness of the words, which proceeded from his mouth, and said, Is not this the son of Joseph? And He said unto them, No doubt ye will apply to me this proverb, "Physician, cure thyself, and do here in thy own country what we have heard were done at Capernaum." But, said He, indeed I must tell you, that no prophet is well received in his own country. And I assure you, there were many widows in Israel, in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up for three years and six months, and there was a great famine through all the land; but Elias was sent to none of those widows, but to a widow-woman at Sarepta in the territory of Sidon. There were also many lepers in Israel, in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed; but Naaman the Syrian was. And all the synagogue were filled with rage, when they heard these things, and they rose up and drove Him out of the city, and dragged Him to the brow of the hill, on which their city was built, in order to throw Him down the precipice. But He passed through the midst of them, and went away.

And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you my disciples, that he may sift you as wheat: but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith may not fail; and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. And he said unto Him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee both to prison and to death.read more.
But He replied, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before thou hast thrice denied that thou knowest me.

And the Father who sent me, hath Himself borne witness of me: and yet ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form. And ye have not his word abiding in you; because ye believe not Him, whom He hath sent. Ye search the scriptures; for ye think that in them ye have eternal life:read more.
and they testify of me: and yet ye will not come to me, that ye may have life. Though I desire not applause from men: but I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another should come in his own name, him ye will receive.

But he said with the more vehemence, Though I should die with thee, I will never disown thee. And so likewise said they all.

Then Peter filled with the holy Spirit said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, if we are this day examined about the benefit done to the impotent man, by what means he is cured, be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, but whom God hath raised from the dead, even by Him doth this man stand here before you whole.read more.
This is the stone that was set at nought by you builders, which is become the head of the corner. And there is salvation in no other; for there is no other name under heaven given among men, by which we can be saved.

Peter replied, though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. And so likewise said all the disciples.

Now Peter was sitting without in the hall, and one of the maids came to him and said, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee: but he denied it before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; after which another maid saw him, and said to them that were there, This man also was with Jesus of Nazareth:read more.
and he denied a second time, and that with an oath, saying, I know not the man. And a little after, they that stood by came to Peter and said, Verily thou also art one of them, for thy speech discovers thee: then he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, who had said to him, before the cock crow, thou wilt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word, that I have spoken, will condemn him at the last day.

And Peter being in the hall below, there came one of the maid-servants of the high priest; and when she saw Peter as he was warming himself, she looked earnestly upon him and said, Thou also wast with Jesus the Nazarene: but he denied it, saying, I do not know Him, nor do I understand what thou meanest. And he went out into the porch, and the cock crew.read more.
And the maid seeing him again said to them that stood by, This is one of them: and he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by, said to Peter again, Thou art certainly one of them: for thou art a Galilean, and thy speech is like theirs. But he began to curse and swear saying, I do not know this man of whom ye speak: And the cock crowed a second time. Then Peter called to mind the word which Jesus had said to him, Before the cock crow twice thou wilt deny me thrice. And he covered his face and wept.

Then some of the scribes and pharisees answered Him, saying, Master, we should be glad to see a sign from thee: but He replied and said unto them, This wicked and degenerate race demand a sign; but no sign shall be given them, except that of the prophet Jonah: for as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly, so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.read more.
So that the men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgement against this generation, and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold a greater than Jonas is here. The queen of the South too, shall rise up in the day of judgement against this generation, and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold a greater than Solomon is here.

And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and sat down together, Peter also sat down among them: and a servant-maid seeing him as he sat by the fire, and looking hard at him, said, This fellow was also with Him: But he denied Him, saying, Woman, I do not know Him.read more.
And after a little while another person seeing him said, And thou art one of them: but Peter said, Man, I am not. And about an hour after, another confidently affirmed saying, In truth this fellow also was with Him; for he is a Galilean too: but Peter answered, Man, I know not what thou sayst. And the Lord turned and looked upon Peter; and Peter called to mind the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, Before the cock crow thou wilt deny me thrice. And Peter went out and wept bitterly.

And when the multitudes were gathering thick together He began to say, This is a wicked generation: they demand a sign, but no sign shall be given them, except that of the prophet Jonah: for as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation. The queen of the south shall rise up in the day of judgement against the men of this generation and condemn them: for she came from the remote parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold a greater than Solomon is here.read more.

And Simon Peter and another disciple followed Jesus. And that other disciple being known to the high priest went in with Jesus into the high-priest's hall. But Peter stood at the door without: the other disciple therefore, who was known to the high-priest, went out and spake to her that kept the door, and brought Peter in. Then saith the maid, that kept the door, to Peter, Art not thou also one of this man's disciples? and he said, I am not.read more.
And the servants and officers stood there, having made a fire of coals, for it was cold, and were warming themselves: and Peter was standing with them and warming himself.

Then Paul and Barnabas boldly said, It was necessary that the word of God should be first spoken to you; but since ye reject it, and judge not yourselves worthy of eternal life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles:

And Simon Peter stood warming himself: and they said to him, Art not thou one of his disciples? and he denied it, and said, I am not. Then said one of the servants of the high-priest, kinsman to him whose ear Peter cut off, Did not I see thee in the garden with Him? Peter then denied it again, and immediately the cock crew.

When therefore the lord of the vineyard cometh, what will he do to those husbandmen? They answer, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out the vineyard to other husbandmen, who will render him the fruits in their seasons.

Now when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon son of Jonas, dost thou love me more than these? He saith unto Him, Yes, Lord, Thou knowest that I love Thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon son of Jonas, dost thou love me? He saith unto Him, Yes, Lord, Thou knowest that I love Thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time, Simon son of Jonas, dost thou love me? Peter was grieved, that He said to him the third time, Dost thou love me? And he said unto Him, Lord, Thou knowest all things, Thou knowest that I love Thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.read more.
Verily, verily I say unto thee, When thou wast younger, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst about where thou wouldest: but when thou art old, thou shalt stretch out thine hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee where thou wouldest not. This He said, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when He had said this, He saith unto him, Follow me.

What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy those husbandmen, and will let the vineyard to others.

And in these days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, (now the number of the persons that were together was about an hundred and twenty,) and said, Men and brethren, it was necessary that this scripture should be fulfilled, which the holy Ghost spake by the mouth of David, concerning Judas, who was guide to them that apprehended Jesus: for he was numbered with us, and had obtained a part of this ministry.read more.

And with many other words did he press and exhort them, saying, Save yourselves from this perverse generation. They therefore that received his word with readiness were baptized: and in that same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

And when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was very urgent in spirit, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Messiah. But as they opposed and blasphemed, he shook his garment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clear of it: from henceforth I will go to the Gentiles.

if we suffer, we shall also reign with Him: if we disown Him, He will also disown us.

Whosoever then shall own me before men, I also will own him before my Father, who is in heaven:

for whosoever shall be ashamed of me, and of my words, in this degenerate and sinful age, of him will the Son of man be also ashamed, when He cometh in the glory of his Father, with the holy angels.
