'Earth' in the Bible

Hezekiah prayed before the Lord and said, “O Lord, the God of Israel, who are enthroned above the cherubim, You are the God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.

Now, O Lord our God, I pray, deliver us from his hand that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, O Lord, are God.”

Cush became the father of Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one in the earth.

Two sons were born to Eber, the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided, and his brother’s name was Joktan.

He is the Lord our God;His judgments are in all the earth.

For we are sojourners before You, and tenants, as all our fathers were; our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope.

Now, O Lord God, Your promise to my father David is fulfilled, for You have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth.

then hear from heaven, from Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You, in order that all the peoples of the earth may know Your name, and fear You as do Your people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by Your name.

So King Solomon became greater than all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.

And all the kings of the earth were seeking the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom which God had put in his heart.

For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. You have acted foolishly in this. Indeed, from now on you will surely have wars.”

They spoke of the God of Jerusalem as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, the work of men’s hands.

“Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, ‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and He has appointed me to build Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever there is among you of all His people, may the Lord his God be with him, and let him go up!’”

Water wears away stones,Its torrents wash away the dust of the earth;So You destroy man’s hope.

“O earth, do not cover my blood,And let there be no resting place for my cry.

“O you who tear yourself in your anger—For your sake is the earth to be abandoned,Or the rock to be moved from its place?

“Memory of him perishes from the earth,And he has no name abroad.

“As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives,And at the last He will take His stand on the earth.

“Do you know this from of old,From the establishment of man on earth,

“The heavens will reveal his iniquity,And the earth will rise up against him.

“But the earth belongs to the mighty man,And the honorable man dwells in it.

“Under the whole heaven He lets it loose,And His lightning to the ends of the earth.

“For to the snow He says, ‘Fall on the earth,’And to the downpour and the rain, ‘Be strong.’

“It changes direction, turning around by His guidance,That it may do whatever He commands itOn the face of the inhabited earth.

“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?Tell Me, if you have understanding,

That it might take hold of the ends of the earth,And the wicked be shaken out of it?

“Have you understood the expanse of the earth?Tell Me, if you know all this.

“Where is the way that the light is divided,Or the east wind scattered on the earth?

“Do you know the ordinances of the heavens,Or fix their rule over the earth?

For she abandons her eggs to the earthAnd warms them in the dust,

“Nothing on earth is like him,One made without fear.

The kings of the earth take their standAnd the rulers take counsel togetherAgainst the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,

‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance,And the very ends of the earth as Your possession.

Now therefore, O kings, show discernment;Take warning, O judges of the earth.

To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed,So that man who is of the earth will no longer cause terror.

The words of the Lord are pure words;As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times.

As for the saints who are in the earth,They are the majestic ones in whom is all my delight.

Then the earth shook and quaked;And the foundations of the mountains were tremblingAnd were shaken, because He was angry.

Let all the earth fear the Lord;Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.

From His dwelling place He looks outOn all the inhabitants of the earth,

The face of the Lord is against evildoers,To cut off the memory of them from the earth.

The Lord will protect him and keep him alive,And he shall be called blessed upon the earth;And do not give him over to the desire of his enemies.

For our soul has sunk down into the dust;Our body cleaves to the earth.

In place of your fathers will be your sons;You shall make them princes in all the earth.

For the Lord Most High is to be feared,A great King over all the earth.

The princes of the people have assembled themselves as the people of the God of Abraham,For the shields of the earth belong to God;He is highly exalted.

Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth,Is Mount Zion in the far north,The city of the great King.

As is Your name, O God,So is Your praise to the ends of the earth;Your right hand is full of righteousness.
