'Expected' in the Bible
Israel said to Joseph, "I never expected to see your face, and behold, God has let me see your children as well."
So he said, "You know that the kingdom was mine and that all Israel expected me to be king; however, the kingdom has turned about and become my brother's, for it was his from the LORD.
"When I expected good, then evil came; When I waited for light, then darkness came.
He dug it all around, removed its stones, And planted it with the choicest vine And He built a tower in the middle of it And also hewed out a wine vat in it; Then He expected it to produce good grapes, But it produced only worthless ones.
"What more was there to do for My vineyard that I have not done in it? Why, when I expected it to produce good grapes did it produce worthless ones?
and said to Him, "Are You the Expected One, or shall we look for someone else?"
Summoning two of his disciples, John sent them to the Lord, saying, "Are You the Expected One, or do we look for someone else?"
When the men came to Him, they said, "John the Baptist has sent us to You, to ask, 'Are You the Expected One, or do we look for someone else?'"
and this, not as we had expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God.
