'Fear' in the Bible

and say to him, ‘Take care and be calm, have no fear and do not be fainthearted because of these two stubs of smoldering firebrands, on account of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and the son of Remaliah.

As for all the hills which used to be cultivated with the hoe, you will not go there for fear of briars and thorns; but they will become a place for pasturing oxen and for sheep to trample.

“You are not to say, ‘It is a conspiracy!’In regard to all that this people call a conspiracy,And you are not to fear what they fear or be in dread of it.

“It is the Lord of hosts whom you should regard as holy.And He shall be your fear,And He shall be your dread.

Therefore thus says the Lord God of hosts, “O My people who dwell in Zion, do not fear the Assyrian who strikes you with the rod and lifts up his staff against you, the way Egypt did.

The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him,The spirit of wisdom and understanding,The spirit of counsel and strength,The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

And He will delight in the fear of the Lord,And He will not judge by what His eyes see,Nor make a decision by what His ears hear;

And He will be the stability of your times,A wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge;The fear of the Lord is his treasure.

Say to those with anxious heart,“Take courage, fear not.Behold, your God will come with vengeance;The recompense of God will come,But He will save you.”

Get yourself up on a high mountain,O Zion, bearer of good news,Lift up your voice mightily,O Jerusalem, bearer of good news;Lift it up, do not fear.Say to the cities of Judah,“Here is your God!”

‘Do not fear, for I am with you;Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

“For I am the Lord your God, who upholds your right hand,Who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.’

“Do not fear, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel;I will help you,” declares the Lord, “and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.

Declare the things that are going to come afterward,That we may know that you are gods;Indeed, do good or evil, that we may anxiously look about us and fear together.

But now, thus says the Lord, your Creator, O Jacob,And He who formed you, O Israel,“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;I have called you by name; you are Mine!

“Do not fear, for I am with you;I will bring your offspring from the east,And gather you from the west.

Thus says the Lord who made youAnd formed you from the womb, who will help you,‘Do not fear, O Jacob My servant;And you Jeshurun whom I have chosen.

“Listen to Me, you who know righteousness,A people in whose heart is My law;Do not fear the reproach of man,Nor be dismayed at their revilings.

That you have forgotten the Lord your Maker,Who stretched out the heavensAnd laid the foundations of the earth,That you fear continually all day long because of the fury of the oppressor,As he makes ready to destroy?But where is the fury of the oppressor?

“Fear not, for you will not be put to shame;And do not feel humiliated, for you will not be disgraced;But you will forget the shame of your youth,And the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more.

“In righteousness you will be established;You will be far from oppression, for you will not fear;And from terror, for it will not come near you.

“Of whom were you worried and fearfulWhen you lied, and did not remember MeNor give Me a thought?Was I not silent even for a long timeSo you do not fear Me?

So they will fear the name of the Lord from the westAnd His glory from the rising of the sun,For He will come like a rushing streamWhich the wind of the Lord drives.
