'Heavens' in the Bible
At this, he permitted him to be baptized. When Jesus had been baptized, he immediately came up out of the water. Suddenly, the heavens opened up for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him.
Just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens split open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.
He said, "Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!"
The one who went down is the same one who went up above all the heavens so that all things would be fulfilled.
And, "In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.
We need such a high priest one who is holy, innocent, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.
But they deliberately ignore the fact that long ago the heavens existed and the earth was formed by God's word out of water and with water,
Now by that same word, the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire and are being kept for the day when ungodly people will be judged and destroyed.
But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. On that day the heavens will disappear with a roaring sound, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done on it will be exposed.
as you look forward to and hasten the coming of the day of God, when the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved and the elements will melt with fire.
But in keeping with his promise, we are looking forward to new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.
These witnesses have authority to close the heavens in order to keep rain from falling while they are prophesying. They also have authority to turn bodies of water into blood and to strike the earth with any plague, as often as they desire.
So be glad, heavens, and those who live in them! How terrible it is for the earth and the sea, because the Devil has come down to you, filled with rage, knowing that his time is short!"
Then I saw a large, white throne and the one who was sitting on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and no place was found for them.
