'Idol' in the Bible
As for the idol, a craftsman casts it,A goldsmith plates it with gold,And a silversmith fashions chains of silver.
He who is too impoverished for such an offeringSelects a tree that does not rot;He seeks out for himself a skillful craftsmanTo prepare an idol that will not totter.
Who has fashioned a god or cast an idol to no profit?
“Gather yourselves and come;Draw near together, you fugitives of the nations; They have no knowledge,Who carry about their wooden idolAnd pray to a god who cannot save.
Therefore I declared them to you long ago,Before they took place I proclaimed them to you,So that you would not say, ‘My idol has done them,And my graven image and my molten image have commanded them.’
“But he who kills an ox is like one who slays a man;He who sacrifices a lamb is like the one who breaks a dog’s neck;He who offers a grain offering is like one who offers swine’s blood; He who burns incense is like the one who blesses an idol.As they have chosen their own ways,And their soul delights in their abominations,
