'Mire' in the Bible
“Then I pulverized them as the dust of the earth;I crushed and stamped them as the mire of the streets.
“He has cast me into the mire,And I have become like dust and ashes.
“His underparts are like sharp potsherds;He spreads out like a threshing sledge on the mire.
Then I beat them fine as the dust before the wind;I emptied them out as the mire of the streets.
I have sunk in deep mire, and there is no foothold;I have come into deep waters, and a flood overflows me.
Deliver me from the mire and do not let me sink;May I be delivered from my foes and from the deep waters.
‘Then behold, all of the women who have been left in the palace of the king of Judah are going to be brought out to the officers of the king of Babylon; and those women will say,“Your close friendsHave misled and overpowered you;While your feet were sunk in the mire,They turned back.”
Then my enemy will see,And shame will cover her who said to me,“Where is the Lord your God?”My eyes will look on her;At that time she will be trampled downLike mire of the streets.
For Tyre built herself a fortressAnd piled up silver like dust,And gold like the mire of the streets.
“They will be as mighty men,Treading down the enemy in the mire of the streets in battle;And they will fight, for the Lord will be with them;And the riders on horses will be put to shame.
It has happened to them according to the true proverb, “A dog returns to its own vomit,” and, “A sow, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire.”
