'Promise' in the Bible
Therefore we must be wary that, while the promise of entering his rest remains open, none of you may seem to have come short of it.
Now when God made his promise to Abraham, since he could swear by no one greater, he swore by himself,
And so by persevering, Abraham inherited the promise.
In the same way God wanted to demonstrate more clearly to the heirs of the promise that his purpose was unchangeable, and so he intervened with an oath,
But Melchizedek who does not share their ancestry collected a tithe from Abraham and blessed the one who possessed the promise.
And let us hold unwaveringly to the hope that we confess, for the one who made the promise is trustworthy.
By faith he lived as a foreigner in the promised land as though it were a foreign country, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, who were fellow heirs of the same promise.
By faith, even though Sarah herself was barren and he was too old, he received the ability to procreate, because he regarded the one who had given the promise to be trustworthy.
