'Wounds' in the Bible

“But if there is a man who hates his neighbor and lies in wait and ambush for him and attacks him and strikes him down so that he dies, and the assailant escapes to one of these cities,

King Joram returned to Jezreel to be healed of the wounds which the Arameans had inflicted on him at Ramah when he fought against Hazael king of Aram. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

but King Joram had returned to Jezreel to heal from the wounds which the Arameans had inflicted on him when he fought with Hazael king of Aram. So Jehu said, “If this is your intent, let no one survive and leave the city (Ramoth-gilead) to go and tell of the plan in Jezreel [the capital].”

Then he returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds they had inflicted on him at Ramah when he fought against Hazael king of Aram. And Ahaziah, the son of Jehoram king of Judah, went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

“For He inflicts pain, but He binds up and gives relief;He wounds, but His hands also heal.

“For He bruises me with a tempestAnd multiplies my wounds without cause.

My wounds are loathsome and foulBecause of my foolishness.

He heals the brokenheartedAnd binds up their wounds [healing their pain and comforting their sorrow].

Wounds and disgrace he will find,And his reproach (blame) will not be blotted out.

Who has woe? Who has sorrow?Who has strife? Who has complaining?Who has wounds without cause?Whose eyes are red and dim?

Like a [careless] archer who [shoots arrows wildly and] wounds everyone,So is he who hires a fool or those who [by chance just] pass by.

The words of a whisperer (gossip) are like dainty morsels [to be greedily eaten];They go down into the innermost chambers of the body [to be remembered and mused upon].

A lying tongue hates those it wounds and crushes,And a flattering mouth works ruin.

Faithful are the wounds of a friend [who corrects out of love and concern],But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful [because they serve his hidden agenda].

From the sole of the foot even to the headThere is nothing healthy in the nation’s body,Only bruises, welts, and raw wounds,Not pressed out or bandaged,Nor softened with oil [as a remedy].

“As a fountain springs up and pours out its fresh waters,So she [continually] pours out her fresh wickedness.Violence and destruction are heard inside her [walls];Sickness and wounds are always before Me.

‘For I will restore health to youAnd I will heal your wounds,’ says the Lord,‘Because they have called you an outcast, saying:“This is Zion; no one seeks her and no one cares for her.”’

“Because of the wrath of the Lord she will not be inhabitedBut she will be completely desolate;Everyone who goes by Babylon will be appalledAnd will hiss (mock) at all her wounds and plagues.

‘Will you still say, “I am a god,”In the presence of him who kills you?But you are [only] a man [made of earth] and not God,In the hands of those who wound and profane you.

For Samaria’s wound is incurable,For it has come to Judah;The enemy has reached the gate of my people,Even to Jerusalem.

And one will say to him, ‘What are these wounds between your arms?’ Then he will answer, ‘Those wounds I received in the house of my friends.’
