'Bread' in the Bible
For they eat the bread of wickednessAnd drink the wine of violence.
For on account of a prostitute one is reduced to a piece of bread [to be eaten up],And the immoral woman hunts [with a hook] the precious life [of a man].
“Come, eat my foodAnd drink the wine I have mixed [and accept my gifts].
“Stolen waters (pleasures) are sweet [because they are forbidden];And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”
Better is he who is lightly esteemed and has a servant,Than he who [boastfully] honors himself [pretending to be what he is not] and lacks bread.
He who tills his land will have plenty of bread,But he who follows worthless things lacks common sense and good judgment.
Do not love [excessive] sleep, or you will become poor;Open your eyes [so that you can do your work] and you will be satisfied with bread.
He who is generous will be blessed,For he gives some of his food to the poor.
Do not eat the bread of a selfish man,Or desire his delicacies;
If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat;And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;
He who cultivates his land will have plenty of bread,But he who follows worthless people and frivolous pursuits will have plenty of poverty.
To have regard for one person over another and to show favoritism is not good,Because for a piece of bread a man will transgress.
She looks well to how things go in her household,And does not eat the bread of idleness.
