God said to him, “Because you have asked this thing and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself discernment to understand justice,

Now God gave Solomon wisdom and very great discernment and breadth of mind, like the sand that is on the seashore.

“He deprives the trusted ones of speechAnd takes away the discernment of the elders.

Now therefore, O kings, show discernment;Take warning, O judges of the earth.

Teach me good discernment and knowledge,For I believe in Your commandments.

For if you cry for discernment,Lift your voice for understanding;

When its limbs are dry, they are broken off;Women come and make a fire with them,For they are not a people of discernment,Therefore their Maker will not have compassion on them.And their Creator will not be gracious to them.

Therefore behold, I will once again deal marvelously with this people, wondrously marvelous;And the wisdom of their wise men will perish,And the discernment of their discerning men will be concealed.”

Then Daniel replied with discretion and discernment to Arioch, the captain of the king’s bodyguard, who had gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon;
