'Lays' in the Bible
and whenever it seizes him [intending to do harm], it throws him down, and he foams [at the mouth], and grinds his teeth and becomes stiff. I told Your disciples to drive it out, and they could not do it.”
He is like a man building a house, who digs and goes deep, and lays the foundation on the rock; and when a flood comes, the torrent bursts upon that house, but is unable to shake it, because it is securely built.
Thus is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
Otherwise, if he lays a foundation and can't finish the building, everyone who watches will begin to ridicule him
and having found it, he lays it upon his own shoulders, rejoicing;
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
rises from supper and lays aside his garments, and having taken a linen towel he girded himself:
No one shows greater love than when he lays down his life for his friends.
For Moses lays down in writing the righteousness which is of the law, The man who has practised those things shall live by them.
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness (absurdity, stupidity) before God; for it is written [in Scripture], “[He is] The one who catches the wise and clever in their craftiness;”
“And behold, I am coming quickly. Blessed (happy, prosperous, to be admired) is the one who heeds and takes to heart and remembers the words of the prophecy [that is, the predictions, consolations, and warnings] contained in this book (scroll).”
