'Noise' in the Bible
Moreover, the Lord said, “Because the daughters of Zion are proudAnd walk with outstretched necks and seductive (flirtatious, alluring) eyes,And trip along with mincing steps and an affected gaitAnd walk with jingling anklets on their feet,
A sound of tumult on the mountains,Like that of many people!A sound of the uproar of the kingdoms,Of nations gathered together! The Lord of hosts is mustering an army for battle.
Oh, the uproar of many peoplesWho roar like the roaring of the seas,And the noise of nationsWho roar like the rumbling of mighty waters!
The mirth of the timbrels (tambourines) ceases,The noise of those who rejoice ends,The joy of the harp ceases.
Then it will be that he who flees at the sound of terror will fall into the pit,And he who comes up out of the pit will be caught in the snare; For the windows of heaven are opened, and the foundations of the earth tremble.
Like heat in a dry land, You will subdue the noise of foreigners [rejoicing over their enemies];Like heat in the shadow of a cloud, the song of the tyrants is silenced.
You will be punished by the Lord of hosts with thunder and earthquake and great noise,With whirlwind and tempest and the flame of a consuming fire.
For so the Lord says to me,“As the lion or the young lion growls over his prey,And though a large group of shepherds is called out against himHe will not be terrified at their voice nor cringe at their noise,So the Lord of hosts will come down to wage war on Mount Zion and on its hill.”
At the sound of the tumult, the peoples flee;At the lifting up of Yourself nations scatter.
