You have shortened the days of his youth;

Remember how fleeting my lifetime is;
For what vanity, [for what emptiness, for what futility, for what wisp of smoke] You have created all the sons of men!

Remember, O Lord, the reproach of Thy servants, I have borne in my bosom all the strivings of the peoples,

Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O LORD; wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.

Lord, You have been our dwelling place [our refuge, our sanctuary, our stability] in all generations.

Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?

Where your fathers have tried Me, Have proved Me, yea, have seen My work.

Let the heavens have joy and the earth be glad; let the sea be thundering with all its waters;

Lightened have His lightnings the world, The earth hath seen, and is pained.

The mountains, like wax, have melted, At the presence of Yahweh, At the presence, of the Lord of all the earth.
