I would have despaired had I not believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord

By David. Unto Thee, O Jehovah, I call, My rock, be not silent to me! Lest Thou be silent to me, And I have been compared With those going down to the pit.

Repay them according to what they have done—
according to the evil of their deeds.
Repay them according to the work of their hands;
give them back what they deserve.

Because they have no respect for the works of the Lord, or for the things which his hands have made, they will be broken down and not lifted up by him.

I will extol and praise You, O Lord, for You have lifted me up,
And have not let my enemies rejoice over me.


O Lord, You have brought my life up from Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead);
You have kept me alive, so that I would not go down to the pit (grave).

And I -- I have said in mine ease, 'I am not moved -- to the age.

O Jehovah, in Thy good pleasure, Thou hast caused strength to remain for my mountain,' Thou hast hidden Thy face -- I have been troubled.
