And when He was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as He was at table, there came a woman with an alabaster-box of ointment of spikenard, very valuable; and she brake the box and poured it on his head. And there were some provoked at it and said, Why was this waste made of the ointment? For it might have been sold for above three hundred pence, and given to the poor. And they inveighed against her.
And He said unto them, See to it that ye beware of covetousness; for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of his possessions.
Now in those days, as the number of disciples increased, there rose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution.
And Enoch the seventh from Adam prophesied against these, saying, Behold the Lord cometh with his holy myriads, to pass judgement upon all, and to convict all the ungodly among them of all their wicked works, which they have impiously committed, and of all the hard things which impious sinners have spoken against Him. These are murmurers, complainers, who walk according to their own irregular desires; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, with admiration of certain persons for some advantage of their own.
Let your conversation be free from covetousness, and be contented with what ye have: for He hath said, I will not leave thee; I will never, never forsake thee.
