So Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family line of David, to be registered together with Mary, who was legally promised in marriage to him [and] was pregnant. And it happened that while they were there, {the time came} for her to give birth.read more.
And she gave birth to her firstborn son, and wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

And the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring good news to you of great joy which will be for all the people: that today a Savior, who is Christ the Lord, was born for you in the city of David. And this will be the sign for you: you will find the baby wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a manger."

But [as] he was considering these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary [as] your wife, for what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. And she will give birth to a son, and you will call his name 'Jesus,' because he will save his people from their sins."

And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in the womb and will give birth to a son, and you will call his name Jesus. This one will be great, and he will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.read more.
And he will reign over the house of Jacob {forever}, and of his kingdom there will be no end. And Mary said to the angel, "How will this be, since I have not had sexual relations with a man?" And the angel answered [and] said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore also the one to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.

And the Word became flesh and took up residence among us, and we saw his glory, glory as of the one and only from the Father, full of grace and truth.

The true light, who gives light to every person, was coming into the world.

For what [was] impossible for the law, in that it was weak through the flesh, God [did]. [By] sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that [although he] was rich, for your sake he became poor, in order that you, by his poverty, may become rich.

But when the fullness of time came, God sent out his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order that he might redeem those under the law, in order that we might receive the adoption.

who, existing in the form of God, did not consider being equal with God something to be grasped, but emptied himself [by] taking the form of a slave, [by] becoming in the likeness of people. And being found in appearance like a man,

And most certainly, great is the mystery of godliness: Who was revealed in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was proclaimed among the Gentiles, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.

Therefore, since the children share in blood and flesh, he also in like manner shared in these [same things], in order that through death he could destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,

What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and our hands have touched, concerning the word of life-- and the life was revealed, and we have seen and testify and announce to you the eternal life which was with the Father and was revealed to us--

who did not commit sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth,

He made his grave with [the] wicked, and with [the] rich in his death, although he had done no violence, and [there was] no deceit in his mouth.

He made the one who did not know sin [to be] sin on our behalf, in order that we could become the righteousness of God in him.

For we do not have a high priest who is not able to sympathize with our weaknesses, but who has been tempted in all [things] in the same way, without sin.

For a high priest such as this indeed is fitting for us, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and having become exalted [above] the heavens, who does not {need every day} like the former high priests to offer up sacrifices for his own sins [and] then for the [sins] of the people, because he did this once for all [when he] offered up himself. For the law appoints men [as] high priests who have weakness, but the statement of the oath, after the law, [appoints] a Son, who is made perfect {forever}.

And you know that that one was revealed in order that he might take away sins, and in him [there] is no sin.

he humbled himself [by] becoming obedient to the point of death, that is, death on a cross.

And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice [and] gave up his spirit.

But Jesus uttered a loud cry [and] expired.

And Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I entrust my spirit!" And [after he] said this, he expired.

Then when he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, "It is completed," and bowing [his] head, he gave up [his] spirit.

but God demonstrates his own love for us, [in] that [while] we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Therefore, by much more, [because we] have been declared righteous now by his blood, we will be saved through him from the wrath. For if, [while we] were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, by much more, having been reconciled, we will be saved by his life.read more.
And not only [this], but also [we are] boasting in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

"I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish that it had been kindled already! But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how I am distressed until it is accomplished!

Was it not necessary [that] the Christ suffer these [things] and enter into his glory?"

I have glorified you on earth [by] completing the work that you have given me {to do}.

this man, delivered up by the determined plan and foreknowledge of God, you executed [by] nailing to [a cross] through the hand of lawless men.

For just as through the disobedience of the one man, the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one, the many will be made righteous.

but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a cause for stumbling, but to the Gentiles foolishness, but to those [who are] called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ [is] the power of God and the wisdom of God.

who himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that [we] may die to sins [and] live to righteousness, by whose wounds you were healed.

For I passed on to you {as of first importance} what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised up on the third day according to the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve,read more.
then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once, the majority of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all, as it were to one born at the wrong time, he appeared also to me.

Now after the Sabbath, at the dawning on the first [day] of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to view the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came up [and] rolled away the stone and sat down on it. Now his appearance was like lightning and his clothing white as snow.read more.
And the guards trembled from the fear of him and became like dead men. But the angel answered [and] said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised, just as he said. Come, see the place where he was lying. And go quickly, tell his disciples, 'He has been raised from the dead, and behold, he is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there.' Behold, I have told you." And they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, [and] ran to tell his disciples.

And [when] the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the [mother] of James, and Salome purchased fragrant spices so that they could go [and] anoint him. And very early in the morning on the first [day] of the week they came to the tomb [after] the sun had risen. And they were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?"read more.
And [when they] looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away (for it was very large). And [as they] were going into the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. But he said to them, "Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene who was crucified. He has been raised, he is not here! See the place where they laid him! But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you." And they went out [and] fled from the tomb, because trembling and amazement had seized them. And they said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.

Now on the first [day] of the week, at very early dawn, they came back to the tomb bringing the fragrant spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone had been rolled away from the tomb, but [when they] went in, they did not find the body.read more.
And it happened that while they were perplexed about this, behold, two men in gleaming clothing stood near them. And [as] they were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, they said to them, "Why are you looking for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has been raised! Remember how he spoke to you [while he] was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of men [who are] sinners, and be crucified, and on the third day rise?" And they remembered his words, and [when they] returned from the tomb, they reported all these [things] to the eleven and to all the rest. Now Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the [mother] of James and the others with them were telling these [things] to the apostles.

Now on the first [day] of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, [while it] was still dark, and saw the stone had been taken away from the tomb. So she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved and said to them, "They have taken away the Lord from the tomb and we do not know where they have put him!" Then Peter and the other disciple went out and were going to the tomb.read more.
And the two were running together, and the other disciple ran ahead, faster than Peter, and came to the tomb first. And bending over to look, he saw the [strips of] linen cloth lying there, though he did not go in. Then Simon Peter also came following him, and he went into the tomb and saw the [strips of] linen cloth lying there, and the facecloth that was on his head--not lying with the [strips of] linen cloth, but folded up separately in one place. So then the other disciple who had come to the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed. (For they did not yet know the scripture that it was necessary for him to rise from the dead.)

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David according to my gospel, in connection with which I suffer misfortune to the point of {imprisonment} as a criminal, but the word of God is not bound. Because of this, I endure all [things] for the sake of the chosen, in order that they also may obtain salvation [which is] in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

But if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching [is] in vain, and your faith [is] in vain.

who was handed over on account of our trespasses, and was raised up in the interest of our justification.

What therefore shall we say? Shall we continue in sin, in order that grace may increase? May it never be! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Or do you not know that as many as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?read more.
Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so also we may live {a new way of life}. For if we have become identified with [him] in the likeness of his death, certainly also we will be [identified with him in the likeness] of [his] resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified together with [him], in order that the body of sin may be done away with, [that] we may no longer be enslaved to sin. For the one who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him, knowing that Christ, [because he] has been raised from the dead, is going to die no more, death no longer being master over him. For that [death] he died, he died to sin once and never again, but that [life] he lives, he lives to God. So also you, consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, so that [you] obey its desires, and do not present your members to sin [as] instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead, and your members to God [as] instruments of righteousness. For sin will not be master over you, because you are not under law, but under grace.

For since through a man [came] death, also through a man [came] the resurrection of the dead.

And [after he] had said these [things], [while] they were watching, he was taken up, and a cloud received him from their sight.

Then the Lord Jesus, after [he] had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.

And he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands, he blessed them. And it happened that while he was blessing them, he parted from them and was taken up into heaven.

I produced the former account, O Theophilus, about all {that} Jesus began to do and to teach, until the day he was taken up, [after he] had given orders through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen,

Therefore, having been exalted to the right hand of God and having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, he has poured out this that you see and hear.

Who [is] the one who condemns? Christ [is] the one who died, and more than that, who was raised, who is also at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.

Therefore, if you have been raised together with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

who is the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, sustaining all [things] by the word of power. [When he] had made purification for sins through him, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

fixing our eyes on Jesus, the originator and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
