For what does the scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness."
Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord considered his response of faith as proof of genuine loyalty.

For the righteousness of God is revealed in the gospel from faith to faith, just as it is written, "The righteous by faith will live."
He was given over because of our transgressions and was raised for the sake of our justification.
and be found in him, not because I have my own righteousness derived from the law, but because I have the righteousness that comes by way of Christ's faithfulness -- a righteousness from God that is in fact based on Christ's faithfulness.
So even David himself speaks regarding the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
For I tell you, unless your righteousness goes beyond that of the experts in the law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
In other words, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting people's trespasses against them, and he has given us the message of reconciliation.
Stand firm therefore, by fastening the belt of truth around your waist, by putting on the breastplate of righteousness,
Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
For just as through the disobedience of the one man many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of one man many will be made righteous.
How then was it credited to him? Was he circumcised at the time, or not? No, he was not circumcised but uncircumcised!
