And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head."
By faith he lived in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise;
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and greeted them from a distance, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.
Then Peter answered him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed you. What then shall we have?"
But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.
for he was looking forward to the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one's work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your exile on earth.
But our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;
And if they had been thinking of that country from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return.
so that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,
I have given them your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against your soul.
"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal,
Sell your possessions, and give alms; provide yourselves purses that do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on the things above, not on things that are on earth.
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Here indeed we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that when we are clothed, we will not be found naked.read more.
For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed, but to be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now he who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. Therefore we are always of good courage; and we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
