who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,

We know that we are of God, and the whole world is under the power of the evil one.

We are therefore ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making his appeal through us. We beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

so that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,

Set your minds on the things above, not on things that are on earth.

training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sober, upright, and godly lives in this present age,

Religion that is pure and undefiled in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry."' But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have prepared?' So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself?

What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?

Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, but the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord so that we will not be condemned along with the world.

Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect."

Now as to the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, "Peace and safety," then destruction will come upon them suddenly as labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.read more.
But you, brethren, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. For you are all sons of light and sons of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness. So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us be alert and sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night; and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But, since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
