And for this cause he is the mediator of a new covenant, that, death having taken place for redemption from the transgressions under the first covenant, they who have been called may receive the everlasting inheritance which was promised. For where there is a testament there must of necessity be implied the death of the testator; for a testament is of force after men are dead, since it is of no force while the testator is living. Hence neither was the first covenant ratified without blood.
