For we have not a highpriest who cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who hath in all points been tempted as we are, without sin.

Him, who knew not sin, he made sin for us, that we might become Gods righteousness in him.

Then was Jesus led up by the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the Devil. And when he had tasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread.read more.
But he answered and said, It is written, "Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God." Then the Devil taketh him into the holy city, and setteth him on the pinnacle of the temple; and saith to him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down; for it is written, "He will give his angels charge concerning thee; and in their hands they will bear thee up, that thou mayst not dash thy foot against a stone." Jesus said to him, Again it is written, "Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God." Again, the Devil taketh him m an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory; and said to him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus to him, Be gone, Satan! for it is written, "Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." Then the Devil leaveth him; and lo! angels came and ministered to him.

And immediately the Spirit driveth him forth into the wilderness.

And ye know that he was manifested to take away sins; and in him is no sin.

And he was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to him.

And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led in the Spirit in the wilderness forty days, tempted by the Devil. And he ate nothing in those days; and when they were ended, he was hungry. And the Devil said to him, If thou art the Son of God, command this stone that it become a loaf of bread.read more.
And Jesus answered him, It is written, "Not on bread alone shall man live." And taking him up, he showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the Devil said to him, All this power will I give thee, and their glory; because to me it hath been delivered, and I give it to whomever I will. If thou then wilt worship me, it shall all be thine. And Jesus answering said to him, It is written, "Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence; for it is written, "He will give his angels charge concerning thee, to guard thee; and in their hands they will bear thee up, that thou mayst not dash thy foot against a stone." And Jesus answering said to him, It hath been said, "Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God." And when he had brought every temptation to an end, the Devil departed from him for a season.

From that time Jesus began to show to his disciples, that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be put to death, and rise again on the third day. Then Peter, taking him aside, began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord! This shall not be to thee. But he turned and said to Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan! thou art my stumblingblock; for thy thoughts are not on the things of God, but on those of men.

And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be put to death, and after three days rise again; and he told them this plainly. And Peter, taking him aside, began to rebuke him. But he turning about and looking at his disciples, rebuked Peter, and saith, Get thee behind me, Satan! for thy thoughts are not on the things of God, but on those of men.

Then Jesus cometh with them to a place called Gethsemane, and saith to the disciples, Sit here, while I go yonder and pray. And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to he sorrowful and full of anguish. Then he saith to them, My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.read more.
And he came a little nearer, and fell on his face, praying and saying, Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me! nevertheless, not as I will, but as Thou wilt. And he cometh to the disciples, and findeth them sleeping, and saith to Peter, Is it so that ye could not watch with me one hour? Watch, and pray that ye enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Again he went away a second time, and prayed, saying, My Father, if this [cup] cannot pass away from me, but I must drink it, thy will be done! And coming again he found them sleeping; for their eyes were heavy. And leaving them, he went away again, and prayed the third time, saying again the same words.

And going on a little farther, he fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it was possible, the hour might pass from him. And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee! take away this cup from me. But not what I will, but what thou wilt. And he cometh and findeth them sleeping; and he saith to Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? Couldst not thou watch one hour? Watch, and pray that ye enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. And again he went away and prayed, saying the same words. And returning, he found them again sleeping, for their eyes were heavy; and they knew not what to answer him. And he cometh the third time, and saith to them, Sleep on, and take your rest! It is enough! the hour is come: lo! the Son of man is delivered up into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going; lo! he that delivereth me up is at hand.

And when he was at the place, he said to them, Pray that ye may not enter into temptation. And he withdrew from them about a stones throw; and kneeling down he prayed, saying, Father, if thou art willing to remove this cup from meyet not my will, but thine be done!read more.
And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony, he prayed more earnestly. And his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling to the ground. And rising up from prayer, he came to the disciples, and found them sleeping for sorrow, and said to them, Why sleep ye? Rise, and pray that ye may not enter into temptation.

And they who passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it up in three days, save thyself, if thou art the Son of God, and come down from the cross. So also the chief priests, mocking, with the scribes and elders, said,read more.
He saved others, cannot he save himself? He is the king of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusteth in God; let him now deliver him, if he desireth him; for he said, I am the Son of God. The robbers also, who were crucified with him, reviled him in the same manner.

In like manner also the chief priests, with the scribes, making sport among themselves, said, He saved others, cannot he save himself? Let the Christ, the king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him were reviling him.

And the soldiers also came up to him and made sport of him, offering him vinegar, and saying, If thou art the king of the Jews, save thyself.

And one of the crucified malefactors railed at him, saying, Art thou not the Christ? save thyself and us.

and others, to make trial of him, asked of him a sign from heaven.

Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying, Teacher, we wish to see a sign from thee. But he answered and said to them, A wicked and adulterous generation is seeking for a sign; and no sign will be given to it, but the sign of Jonah the prophet.

And when the crowds were thronging about him, he began to say, This generation is a wicked generation; it seeketh a sign; and no sign will be given it, but the sign of Jonah.

The Jews therefore answered and said to him, What sign dost thou show us, seeing thou doest these things?

They said therefore to him, What sign doest thou, that we may see, and believe thee? What dost thou work?

For in that he himself hath suffered, being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.
