Some seeds fell by the roadside, and the birds devoured them.

Does the plowman keep plowing all day in order to sow seed? Does he keep turning his soil and breaking the clods?
The enemy that sowed them is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the age. The reapers are angels.
Joseph said to the people: I have now bought you and your lands for the king. Here is seed for you to sow in your fields.
That saying is true. One sows and another reaps.
He told another illustration, saying: The kingdom of heaven is like a man that sowed good seed in his field.

Plant your land and gather in what it produces for six years.
