I said: Plow new ground for yourselves, plant righteousness, and reap the blessings that your devotion to me will produce. It is time for you to turn to me, Jehovah, and I will come and pour out righteousness on you.

Be awake (beware) (be cautious and active), watch (perceive) and pray, for you do not know the time. It is similar to a man traveling to another country. He leaves his house and gives authority to his servants to do the work. He commands them to watch. Watch therefore for you do not know when the lord of the house comes. He could come suddenly and find you sleeping. What I say to you I say to all, be on the watch (be vigilant) (stay awake) (be circumspect) (attentive and ready)!

Gird your loins (strengthen yourselves) and light your lamps. Be like men looking for their master to return. He will knock when he returns from the marriage feast, and it will immediately be opened to him. Those servants are blessed, for the master will find them alert when he comes. Even if he comes in the second watch or the third and he finds the same his servants are blessed.

Be on the watch all the time. Pray for the strength to escape all these things in order to stand before the Son of man.

You know the time. It is the hour for you to awake from sleep. Now our salvation is nearer than when we became believers.

Be alert (be watchful) and stand fast (be vigilant) (persevere) in the faith, carry on as men (be courageous), be strong. (Ps 31:24)

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being vigilant with thanksgiving.

Therefore, let us not sleep like others do. But let us watch and be sober.

Remind them to be in subjection to rulers and to authorities, to be obedient, and to be ready to do every good work,

The end of all things is near. Be of sound mind and judgment. Also be sober for the purpose of prayer.

Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion walks about, seeking whom he may devour (consume).

Remember what you received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If you do not stay awake, I will come to you like a thief. You will not know the hour when I will come to you.
