And the tempter came to him and said: If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread. But he answered and said: It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them, and said to him: All these things will I give you, if you will fall down and worship me. Then Jesus said to him: Get behind me, Satan, for it is written: You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.

And he went forward a little, and fell on his face in prayer, saying: My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet not as I will, but as thou willest.

Again, a second time, he went away, and prayed, saying: My Father, if this cup cannot pass from me, unless I drink it, thy will be done.

and he said: Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee; let this cup pass from me: but not what I will, but what thou wiliest.

For I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me.

And when all things shall have been put under him, then, also, shall the Son himself be subjected to him that did put all things under him, that God may be the all in all.
