So, then, we have had fathers of our flesh who corrected us, and we reverenced them; shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of our spirits, and live?

Then Jesus answered and said to them: Verily, verily I say to you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father do; for whatever things he does, these also the Son does in like manner.
For I have not spoken of myself: but the Father who sent me, he gave me commandment what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life eternal. What things I speak therefore, as the Father has said to me, so I speak.
For he has put all things under his feet. But when the scripture says, that all things are put under him, it is evident that he is excepted, who did put all things under him. And when all things shall have been put under him, then, also, shall the Son himself be subjected to him that did put all things under him, that God may be the all in all.
In the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and supplications, with strong crying and tears, to him that was able to save him from death, and having been heard with respect to that which he feared, although he was a Son, he yet learned obedience from the things which he suffered;
Wherefore, when he comes into the world, he says: Sacrifice and offering thou hast not desired, but a body thou hast prepared me; in whole burnt-offerings and offerings for sin, thou hast had no pleasure. Then, said I, Behold, I come, (in the roll of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, God.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not think it an act of robbery to be equal with God; but he divested himself by taking the form of a servant, and being made in the likeness of men:

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if any one is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man that looks at his natural face in a mirror: for he looks at himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what sort of person he is.read more.
But he that looks intently into the perfect law of liberty, and remains constant, being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, he shall be blessed in his deed.
I testify to every one that hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if any one add to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book. And if any one take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life, and from the holy city; which things are written in this book.
Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive: for they watch for your souls, as those who must give an account; that they may do this with joy, and not with grief: for that would be fatal to you.
Let every soul be subject to the higher authorities. For there is no authority but from God: the authorities that are, have been appointed by God.
I beseech you, brethren, (you know the house of Stephanas, that they are the first-fruits of Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves to the ministry of the saints,) that you submit yourselves to such, and to every one that works and labors with us.
Now we beseech you, brethren, to have regard for those who labor among you, and preside over you in the Lord, and admonish you, and that you esteem them very highly in love on account of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.

Therefore, he that resists the authority, resists the appointment of God; and those who resist shall receive to themselves condemnation. For rulers are not a terror to works that are good, but to those which are evil. Will you, then, not be afraid of the authority? Do that which is good, and you shall receive praise from the same. For he is the minister of God to you for that which is good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for he bears not the sword in vain. For he is the minister of God to inflict punishment on him that does evil.read more.
Wherefore, it is necessary to be subject, not only because of punishment, but also for conscience sake. On this very account, too, pay tribute also: for they are the public servants of God, attending continually to this very thing. Render, therefore, to all their dues; tribute, to whom tribute is due; custom, to whom custom; fear, to whom fear; honor, to whom honor is due.
Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and authorities, to obey rulers, to be ready for every good work,
Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man, for the Lord's sake; whether it be to the king, as supreme ruler, or to governors, as those sent by him for the punishment of evil-doers, and for the praise of those who do well.
Wives, be subject to your own husbands as to the Lord: for the husband is the head of the wife, as the Christ also is the head of the church; and he is the savior of the body. But as the church is subject to the Christ, so, also, let the wives be subject to their own husbands in every thing.
That they may teach the young women to be sober-minded, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, fond of home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not reviled.
Likewise, you wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they may, without the word, be won by the conduct of their wives,
Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honor your father and your mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth.
but is under guardians and managers till the time appointed by the father.
Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is wellpleasing to the Lord.
Servants, be subject to your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in the simplicity of your heart, as to the Christ; not with eye-service, as pleasing men, but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the soul; with good will doing service as to the Lord, and not as to men;read more.
knowing that whatever good any one does, the same shall he receive from the Lord, whether he is a servant or a freeman.
Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eye-service, as pleasing men, but with simplicity of heart, fearing God. And whatever you do, do from the soul, as to the Lord, and not to men; knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance: for you serve the Lord Christ.
Exhort servants to be subject to their own masters, and to please them well in all things, not contradicting, not stealing, but showing all good faithfulness, that they may adorn the teaching of God our Savior in all things.
Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the perverse.

So ought men to love their own wives as their own bodies. He that loves his wife loves himself; for no one ever yet hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Christ the church: because we are members of his body, being of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh. Great is this mystery; but I speak of Christ and of the church. But yet, let each one of you so love his wife as himself; and let the wife see that she reverence her husband.
And you fathers, do not provoke your children to anger: but bring them up in the instruction and discipline of the Lord.
I exhort, therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings, and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and gravity.
The elders that are among you I exhort, who am a fellow-elder, and a witness of the sufferings of the Christ, and a sharer in the glory that is to be revealed. Act as shepherds to the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight, not by compulsion, but willingly; not for the sake of sordid gain, but from readiness of mind: neither as being lords over God's possessions, but being examples to the flock.read more.
And when the chief shepherd shall appear, you shall receive the crown of glory that fades not away.
