'Death' in the Bible
After the death of Moses the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, who had served Moses:
Anyone who rebels against your order and does not obey your words in all that you command him, will be put to death. Above all, be strong and courageous!”
that you will spare the lives of my father, mother, brothers, sisters, and all who belong to them, and save us from death.”
Joshua said, “Why have you troubled us? Today the Lord will trouble you!” So all Israel stoned them to death. They burned their bodies, threw stones on them,
from Mount Halak, which ascends to Seir, as far as Baal-gad in the Valley of Lebanon at the foot of Mount Hermon. He captured all their kings and struck them down, putting them to death.
Along with those the Israelites put to death, they also killed the diviner, Balaam son of Beor, with the sword.
He is to stay in that city until he stands trial before the assembly and until the death of the high priest serving at that time. Then the one who committed manslaughter may return home to his own city from which he fled.”
