'Saying' in the Bible
All who heard these things kept them in their hearts, saying, "What then will this child be?" For the Lord's hand was indeed with him.
Suddenly a vast, heavenly army appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
Simeon took him in his arms and blessed God, saying,
But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!"
So he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, "I am willing. Be clean!" And immediately the leprosy left him.
Then astonishment seized them all, and they glorified God. They were filled with awe, saying, "We have seen incredible things today."
But the Pharisees and their experts in the law complained to his disciples, saying, "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?"
Fear seized them all, and they began to glorify God, saying, "A great prophet has appeared among us!" and "God has come to help his people!"
They came and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we are about to die!" So he got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waves; they died down, and it was calm.
Then he said to them, "Where is your faith?" But they were afraid and amazed, saying to one another, "Who then is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him!"
The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying,
Now Herod the tetrarch heard about everything that was happening, and he was thoroughly perplexed, because some people were saying that John had been raised from the dead,
while others were saying that Elijah had appeared, and still others that one of the prophets of long ago had risen.
saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and experts in the law, and be killed, and on the third day be raised."
Then as the men were starting to leave, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us make three shelters, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah" -- not knowing what he was saying.
As he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
Then a voice came from the cloud, saying, "This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him!"
Then the seventy-two returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name!"
Now an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus, saying, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, 'Take care of him, and whatever else you spend, I will repay you when I come back this way.'
Then when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.'
Even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times returns to you saying, 'I repent,' you must forgive him."
There was also a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, 'Give me justice against my adversary.'
But Jesus called for the children, saying, "Let the little children come to me and do not try to stop them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
But the twelve understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what Jesus meant.
But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, 'We do not want this man to be king over us!'
saying, "If you had only known on this day, even you, the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.
saying to them, "It is written, 'My house will be a house of prayer,' but you have turned it into a den of robbers!"
So they discussed it with one another, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say, 'Why did you not believe him?'
He said, "Watch out that you are not misled. For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not follow them!
Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover for us to eat."
Then he took bread, and after giving thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me."
And in the same way he took the cup after they had eaten, saying, "This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.
They began to accuse him, saying, "We found this man subverting our nation, forbidding us to pay the tribute tax to Caesar and claiming that he himself is Christ, a king."
But they persisted in saying, "He incites the people by teaching throughout all Judea. It started in Galilee and ended up here!"
The people also stood there watching, but the rulers ridiculed him, saying, "He saved others. Let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, his chosen one!"
and saying, "If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself!"
One of the criminals who was hanging there railed at him, saying, "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!"
But the other rebuked him, saying, "Don't you fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?
and saying, "The Lord has really risen, and has appeared to Simon!"
While they were saying these things, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you."
