'Themselves' in the Bible
And all went to enrol themselves, every one to his own city.
And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.
The scribes and the Pharisees began to argue among themselves, saying, "Who is this man who is uttering blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
But they were filled with madness, and they spoke together among themselves what they should do to Jesus.
But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.
And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
Those beside the road are the people who have heard; then the devil comes and takes the message [of God] away from their hearts, so that they will not believe [in Me as the Messiah] and be saved.
and they were all weeping, and beating themselves for her, and he said, 'Weep not, she did not die, but doth sleep;
And the day went on; and the twelve came to him and said, Send these people away so that they may go into the towns and the country round about and get resting-places and food for themselves, for we are in a waste place.
Now Peter and the others were weighed down with sleep; but, keeping themselves awake all through, they saw His glory, and the two men standing with Him.
After this voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They kept it to themselves, and said not a word to any one at that time about what they had seen.
And having turned unto the disciples, he said, by themselves, 'Happy the eyes that are perceiving what ye perceive;
When He left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be very hostile [toward Him] and to interrogate Him on many subjects,
for from now on five in one household will be divided [over Me], three against two and two against three.
He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noticed how they would choose the best places for themselves:
'And they began with one consent all to excuse themselves: The first said to him, A field I bought, and I have need to go forth and see it; I beg of thee, have me excused.
What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if one of them gets loose and goes away, will not let the ninety-nine be in the waste land by themselves, and go after the wandering one, till he sees where it is?
And he said to them, Ye are they who justify themselves before men, but God knows your hearts; for what amongst men is highly thought of is an abomination before God.
And when he went into a certain small town he came across ten men who were lepers, and they, keeping themselves at a distance,
And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
When the people saw it, they all began muttering [in discontent], “He has gone to be the guest of a man who is a [notorious] sinner.”
And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?
But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
For they gave out of their wealth, having more than enough for themselves: but she, even out of her need, has put in all her living.
He said, “Be careful and see to it that you are not misled; for many will come in My name [appropriating for themselves the name Messiah which belongs to Me alone], saying, ‘I am He,’ and, ‘The time is near!’ Do not follow them.
They were delighted and agreed with him to give him money.
And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
And when they had lighted a fire in the middle of the court and had seated themselves in a group round it, Peter was sitting among them,
And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.
And there was following him a great multitude of the people, and of women, who also were beating themselves and lamenting him,
But Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.
Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
They began describing in detail what had happened on the road, and how Jesus was recognized by them when He broke the bread.
and being amazed, and becoming affrighted, they were thinking themselves to see a spirit.
