Varieties Of Spiritual Gifts

1 Now concerning (A)spiritual gifts, brethren, (B)I do not want you to be unaware.

1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

1 Now concerning what comes from the Spirit:(a) brothers, I do not want you to be unaware.

1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I don't want you to be ignorant.

1 Now about the spiritual gifts [the special endowments given by the Holy Spirit], brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.

2 (C)You know that when you were pagans, you were (D)led astray to the (E)mute idols, however you were led.

2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.

2 You know that when you were pagans, you used to be led off to the idols(A) that could not speak.(B)

2 You know that when you were unbelievers, you were enticed and led astray to worship idols that couldn't even speak.

2 You know that when you were pagans, you were led off after speechless idols; however you were led off [whether by impulse or habit].

3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking (a)(F)by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is (b)(G)accursed”; and no one can say, “Jesus is (H)Lord,” except (c)(I)by the Holy Spirit.

3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

3 Therefore I am informing you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.

3 For this reason I want you to be aware that no one who is speaking by God's Spirit can say, "Jesus is cursed," and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

3 Therefore I want you to know that no one speaking by the [power and influence of the] Spirit of God can say, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is [my] Lord,” except by [the power and influence of] the Holy Spirit.

4 Now there are (J)varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit.

4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

4 Now there are different gifts,(C) but the same Spirit.

4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit,

4 Now there are [distinctive] varieties of spiritual gifts [special abilities given by the grace and extraordinary power of the Holy Spirit operating in believers], but it is the same Spirit [who grants them and empowers believers].

5 And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord.

5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

5 There are different ministries, but the same Lord.

5 and there are varieties of ministries, but the same Lord.

5 And there are [distinctive] varieties of ministries and service, but it is the same Lord [who is served].

6 There are varieties of effects, but the same (K)God who works all things in all persons.

6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

6 And there are different activities, but the same God activates each gift in each person.(b)

6 There are varieties of results, but it is the same God who produces all the results in everyone.

6 And there are [distinctive] ways of working [to accomplish things], but it is the same God who produces all things in all believers [inspiring, energizing, and empowering them].

7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit (L)for the common good.

7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

7 A demonstration of the Spirit is given to each person(D) to produce what is beneficial:

7 To each person has been given the ability to manifest the Spirit for the common good.

7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit [the spiritual illumination and the enabling of the Holy Spirit] for the common good.

8 For to one is given the word of (M)wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of (N)knowledge according to the same Spirit;

8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

8 to one(E) is given a message of wisdom(F)through the Spirit,to another, a message of knowledgeby the same Spirit,

8 To one has been given a message of wisdom by the Spirit; to another the ability to speak with knowledge according to the same Spirit;

8 To one is given through the [Holy] Spirit [the power to speak] the message of wisdom, and to another [the power to express] the word of knowledge and understanding according to the same Spirit;

9 to another (O)faith (d)by the same Spirit, and to another (P)gifts of (e)healing (f)by the one Spirit,

9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

9 to another, faith by the same Spirit,to another, gifts of healing(G) by the one Spirit,

9 to another faith by the same Spirit; to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit;

9 to another [wonder-working] faith [is given] by the same [Holy] Spirit, and to another the [extraordinary] gifts of healings by the one Spirit;

10 and to another the (g)effecting of (h)(Q)miracles, and to another (R)prophecy, and to another the (i)(S)distinguishing of spirits, to another various (T)kinds of tongues, and to another the (U)interpretation of tongues.

10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

10 to another, the performing of miracles,(H)to another, prophecy,(I)to another, distinguishing between spirits,(J)to another, different kinds of languages,to another, interpretation of languages.

10 to another miraculous results; to another prophecy; to another the ability to distinguish between spirits; to another various kinds of languages; and to another the interpretation of languages.

10 and to another the working of (a)miracles, and to another prophecy [foretelling the future, speaking a new message from God to the people], and to another discernment of spirits [the ability to distinguish sound, godly doctrine from the deceptive doctrine of man-made religions and cults], to another various kinds of [unknown] tongues, and to another interpretation of tongues.

11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, (V)distributing to each one individually just as He wills.

11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

11 But one and the same Spirit is active in all these, distributing to each person as He wills.

11 But one and the same Spirit produces all these results and gives what he wants to each person.

11 All these things [the gifts, the achievements, the abilities, the empowering] are brought about by one and the same [Holy] Spirit, distributing to each one individually just as He chooses.

Unity In The Midst Of Diversity

12 For even (W)as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, (X)so also is Christ.

12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

12 For as the body is one(K) and has many parts, and all the parts of that body, though many, are one body—so also is Christ.(L)

12 For just as the body is one and yet has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, form a single body, so it is with the Messiah.

12 For just as the body is one and yet has many parts, and all the parts, though many, form [only] one body, so (b)it is with Christ.

13 For (j)(Y)by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether (Z)Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to (AA)drink of one Spirit.

13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

13 For we were all baptized by(c) one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.(M)

13 For by one Spirit all of us Jews and Greeks, slaves and free were baptized into one body and were all privileged to drink from one Spirit.

13 For by one [Holy] Spirit we were all baptized into one body, [spiritually transformed—united together] whether Jews or Greeks (Gentiles), slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one [Holy] Spirit [since the same Holy Spirit fills each life].(A)

14 For (AB)the body is not one member, but many.

14 For the body is not one member, but many.

14 So the body is not one part but many.

14 For the body does not consist of only one part, but of many.

14 For the [human] body does not consist of one part, but of many [limbs and organs].

15 If the foot says, “Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason (k)any the less a part of the body.

15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

15 If the foot should say, “Because I’m not a hand, I don’t belong to the body,” in spite of this it still belongs to the body.

15 If the foot says, "Since I'm not a hand, I'm not part of the body," that does not make it any less a part of the body, does it?

15 If the foot says, “Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body,” is it not on the contrary still a part of the body?

16 And if the ear says, “Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason (l)any the less a part of the body.

16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

16 And if the ear should say, “Because I’m not an eye, I don’t belong to the body,” in spite of this it still belongs to the body.

16 And if the ear says, "Since I'm not an eye, I'm not part of the body," that does not make it any less a part of the body, does it?

16 If the ear says, “Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body,” is it not on the contrary still a part of the body?

17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be?

17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?

17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?

17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?

17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole [body] were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?

18 But now God has (AC)placed the members, each one of them, in the body, (AD)just as He desired.

18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

18 But now God has placed each one of the parts in one body just as He wanted.(N)

18 But now God has arranged the parts, every one of them, in the body according to his plan.

18 But now [as things really are], God has placed and arranged the parts in the body, each one of them, just as He willed and saw fit [with the best balance of function].

19 If they were all one member, where would the body be?

19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?

19 And if they were all the same part, where would the body be?

19 Now if all of it were one part, there wouldn't be a body, would there?

19 If they all were a single organ, where would [the rest of] the body be?

20 But now (AE)there are many members, but one body.

20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.

20 Now there are many parts, yet one body.

20 So there are many parts, but one body.

20 But now [as things really are] there are many parts [different limbs and organs], but a single body.

21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; or again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”

21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.

21 So the eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” Or again, the head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you!”

21 The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you," or the head to the feet, "I don't need you."

21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”

22 On the contrary, (m)it is much truer that the members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary;

22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:

22 But even more, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are necessary.

22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are in fact indispensable,

22 But quite the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are [absolutely] necessary;

23 and those members of the body which we (n)deem less honorable, (o)on these we bestow more abundant honor, and our less presentable members become much more presentable,

23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.

23 And those parts of the body that we think to be less honorable,(O) we clothe these with greater honor, and our unpresentable parts have a better presentation.

23 and the parts of the body that we think are less honorable are treated with special honor, and we make our less attractive parts more attractive.

23 and as for those parts of the body which we consider less honorable, these we treat with greater honor; and our less presentable parts are treated with greater modesty,

24 whereas our more presentable members have no need of it. But God has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that member which lacked,

24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:

24 But our presentable parts have no need of clothing. Instead, God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the less honorable,

24 However, our attractive parts don't need this. But God has put the body together and has given special honor to the parts that lack it,

24 while our more presentable parts do not require it. But God has combined the [whole] body, giving greater honor to that part which lacks it,

25 so that there may be no (p)division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.

25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.

25 so that there would be no division(P) in the body, but that the members would have the same concern for each other.

25 so that there might be no disharmony in the body, but that its parts should have the same concern for each other.

25 so that there would be no division or discord in the body [that is, lack of adaptation of the parts to each other], but that the parts may have the same concern for one another.

26 And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is (q)honored, all the members rejoice with it.

26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

26 So if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it. If one part is praised, every part rejoices with it.

26 And if one member suffers, all the parts share the suffering; if one member is honored, all rejoice with it.

27 Now you are (AF)Christ’s body, and (AG)individually members of it.

27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

27 Now you are the body of Christ,(Q) and individual members of it.

27 Now you are the Messiah's body and individual parts of it.

27 Now you [collectively] are Christ’s body, and individually [you are] members of it [each with his own special purpose and function].

28 And God has (r)(AH)appointed in (AI)the church, first (AJ)apostles, second (AK)prophets, third (AL)teachers, then (s)(AM)miracles, then (AN)gifts of healings, helps, (AO)administrations, various (AP)kinds of tongues.

28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

28 And God has placed these in the church:(R)first apostles, second prophets,third teachers,(S) next miracles,(T)then gifts of healing,(U) helping,managing, various kinds of languages.

28 God has appointed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then those who perform miracles, those who have gifts of healing, those who help others, administrators, and those who speak various kinds of languages.

28 So God has appointed and placed in the church [for His own use]: first apostles [chosen by Christ], second prophets [those who foretell the future, those who speak a new message from God to the people], third teachers, then those who work miracles, then those with the gifts of healings, the helpers, the administrators, and speakers in various kinds of [unknown] tongues.

29 All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of (t)miracles, are they?

29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?

29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets?Are all teachers? Do all do miracles?

29 Not all are apostles, are they? Not all are prophets, are they? Not all are teachers, are they? Not all perform miracles, do they?

29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles?

30 All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not (AQ)interpret, do they?

30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?

30 Do all have gifts of healing?Do all speak in other languages?Do all interpret?(V)

30 Not all have the gift of healing, do they? Not all speak in foreign languages, do they? Not all interpret, do they?

30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?

31 But (AR)earnestly desire the greater gifts.And I show you a still more excellent way.

31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

31 But desire(W) the greater gifts. And I will show you an even better way.

31 Keep on desiring the better gifts. And now I will show you the best way of all.

31 But earnestly desire and strive for the greater gifts [if acquiring them is going to be your goal].And yet I will show you a still more excellent way [one of the choicest graces and the highest of them all: unselfish love].
