Solomon Continues To Build

1 And Solomon was thirteen years building his own house; and he finished all his house.

1 Now (A)Solomon was building his own house thirteen years, and he finished all his house.

1 But Solomon was building his own house thirteen years, and he finished all his house.

1 Solomon completed his entire palace complex after 13 years of construction.(A)

1 But Solomon took thirteen years to build his own palace, and finally finished it.

2 And he built the house of the forest of Lebanon; its length was a hundred cubits, and its breadth fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits, upon four rows of cedar-pillars, with cedar-beams upon the pillars;

2 (B)He built the house of the forest of Lebanon; its length was 100 (a)cubits and its width 50 cubits and its height 30 cubits, on four rows of cedar pillars with cedar beams on the pillars.

2 He built also the house of the forest of Lebanon; the length thereof was an hundred cubits, and the breadth thereof fifty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits, upon four rows of cedar pillars, with cedar beams upon the pillars.

2 He built the House of the Forest of Lebanon.(B) It was 150 feet(a) long, 75 feet(b) wide, and 45 feet(c) high on four rows of cedar pillars, with cedar beams on top of the pillars.

2 He built his own palace out of timber supplied from the forest of Lebanon. It was 100 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, 20 cubits tall, and was constructed on four rows of cedar pillars, with cedar beams interlocking the pillars.

3 and it was covered with cedar above upon the side-chambers, which were on forty-five pillars, fifteen in a row.

3 It was paneled with cedar above the side chambers which were on the 45 pillars, 15 in each row.

3 And it was covered with cedar above upon the beams, that lay on forty five pillars, fifteen in a row.

3 It was paneled above with cedar at the top of the chambers that rested on 45 pillars, 15 per row.

3 There were 45 pillars paneled with cedar above the side chambers, with rows of fifteen pillars,

4 And there were cross-beams in three rows, and window was against window in three ranks.

4 There were artistic window frames in three rows, and window was opposite window in three ranks.

4 And there were windows in three rows, and light was against light in three ranks.

4 There were three rows of window frames, facing each other(d) in three tiers.(e)(C)

4 with three rows of framed windows facing each other in three ranks.

5 And all the doors and posts were square, with an architrave; and window was against window in three ranks.

5 All the doorways and doorposts had squared artistic frames, and window was opposite window in three ranks.

5 And all the doors and posts were square, with the windows: and light was against light in three ranks.

5 All the doors and doorposts had rectangular frames, the openings facing each other(f) in three tiers.(g)

5 All the doorways and doorposts had rectangular frames, with the doorways facing each other in three tiers.

6 And he made the porch of pillars; its length was fifty cubits, and its breadth thirty cubits; and there was a porch in front of them; and there were pillars, and steps in front of them.

6 Then he made (C)the hall of pillars; its length was 50 cubits and its width 30 cubits, and a porch was in front of them and pillars and a (D)threshold in front of them.

6 And he made a porch of pillars; the length thereof was fifty cubits, and the breadth thereof thirty cubits: and the porch was before them: and the other pillars and the thick beam were before them.

6 He made the hall of pillars 75 feet(h) long and 45 feet(i) wide. A portico was in front of the pillars, and a canopy with pillars(j) was in front of them.

6 There was also a hall of pillars 50 cubits long and 30 cubits wide, and a porch in front with pillars, and a canopy in front of the pillars.

7 And he made the porch for the throne where he judged, the porch of judgment; and it was covered with cedar from floor to floor.

7 He made the hall of the (E)throne where he was to judge, the hall of judgment, and (F)it was paneled with cedar from floor to floor.

7 Then he made a porch for the throne where he might judge, even the porch of judgment: and it was covered with cedar from one side of the floor to the other.

7 He made the Hall of the Throne where he would judge(D)—the Hall of Judgment. It was paneled with cedar from the floor to the rafters.(k)

7 He constructed the Judgment Hall for the throne room where he would be ruling, paneling it with cedar from floor to ceiling.

8 And his house where he dwelt had another court within the porch, which was of the like work. And he made, like to this porch, a house for Pharaoh's daughter, whom Solomon had taken.

8 His house where he was to live, the other court inward from the hall, was of the same workmanship. (G)He also made a house like this hall for Pharaoh’s daughter, (H)whom Solomon had married.

8 And his house where he dwelt had another court within the porch, which was of the like work. Solomon made also an house for Pharaoh's daughter, whom he had taken to wife, like unto this porch.

8 Solomon’s own palace where he would live, in the other courtyard behind the hall, was of similar construction. And he made a house like this hall for Pharaoh’s daughter, his wife.(l)(E)

8 Solomon's personal dwelling quarters, a separate court behind the hall, was of similar workmanship. Solomon also built a house similar to this for Pharaoh's daughter, whom Solomon had married.

9 All these buildings were of costly stones, hewn stones, according to the measures, sawed with saws, within and without, even from the foundation to the coping, and on the outside as far as the great court.

9 All these were of costly stones, of stone cut according to measure, sawed with saws, inside and outside; even from the foundation to the coping, and so on the outside to the great court.

9 All these were of costly stones, according to the measures of hewed stones, sawed with saws, within and without, even from the foundation unto the coping, and so on the outside toward the great court.

9 All of these buildings were of costly stones, cut to size and sawed with saws on the inner and outer surfaces, from foundation to coping and from the outside to the great courtyard.

9 All of these were made with expensive stones, pre-cut according to specifications, hand-sawed inside and out from the foundation to the coping, including from inside to the great court.

10 And the foundations were of costly stones, great stones, stones of ten cubits and stones of eight cubits.

10 The foundation was of costly stones, even large stones, stones of ten cubits and stones of eight cubits.

10 And the foundation was of costly stones, even great stones, stones of ten cubits, and stones of eight cubits.

10 The foundation was made of large, costly stones 12 and 15 feet(m) long.

10 The foundation was made of expensive stone, including large stones ten cubits long and stones eight cubits long.

11 And above were costly stones, hewn stones, according to the measures, and cedar.

11 And above were costly stones, stone cut according to measure, and cedar.

11 And above were costly stones, after the measures of hewed stones, and cedars.

11 Above were also costly stones, cut to size, as well as cedar wood.

11 Above these were expensive stones cut according to specifications, and cedar.

12 And the great court round about had three rows of hewn stones, and a row of cedar-beams; and so it was for the inner court of the house of Jehovah, and the porch of the house.

12 So (I)the great court all around had three rows of cut stone and a row of cedar beams even as the inner court of the house of the Lord, and (J)the porch of the house.

12 And the great court round about was with three rows of hewed stones, and a row of cedar beams, both for the inner court of the house of the LORD, and for the porch of the house.

12 Around the great courtyard, as well as the inner courtyard of the Lord’s temple and the portico of the temple, were three rows of dressed stone and a row of trimmed cedar beams.(F)

12 So the great court was surrounded by three rows of cut stone, along with a row of cedar beams, just like the inner court of the LORD's Temple and the porch surrounding the Temple.

The Temple Furnishings

13 And king Solomon sent and fetched Hiram out of Tyre.

13 Now (K)King Solomon sent and brought Hiram from Tyre.

13 And king Solomon sent and fetched Hiram out of Tyre.

13 King Solomon had Hiram(n)(G) brought from Tyre.

13 King Solomon sent for Hiram from Tyre,

14 He was a widow's son of the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a worker in brass; and he was full of wisdom and understanding and knowledge, to do all kinds of works in brass. And he came to king Solomon, and made all his work.

14 (L)He was a widow’s son from the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a worker in bronze; and (M)he was filled with wisdom and understanding and skill for doing any work in bronze. So he came to King Solomon and (N)performed all his work.

14 He was a widow's son of the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a worker in brass: and he was filled with wisdom, and understanding, and cunning to work all works in brass. And he came to king Solomon, and wrought all his work.

14 He was a widow’s son from the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a bronze craftsman. Hiram had great skill,(H) understanding, and knowledge to do every kind of bronze work. So he came to King Solomon and carried out all his work.(I)

14 the son of a widow from the tribe of Naphtali, whose father was from Tyre. A bronze worker, he was wise, knowledgeable, and was skilled in all sorts of bronze working. He went to King Solomon and did all of his work.

The Bronze Pillars

15 And he formed the two pillars of brass; the height of one pillar was eighteen cubits, and a line of twelve cubits encompassed the second pillar.

15 He fashioned (O)the two pillars of bronze; (P)eighteen cubits was the height of one pillar, and a line of twelve cubits (b)measured the circumference of both.

15 For he cast two pillars of brass, of eighteen cubits high apiece: and a line of twelve cubits did compass either of them about.

15 He cast two hollow bronze pillars:(J) each 27 feet(o) high and 18 feet(p) in circumference.(q)(K)

15 He fashioned two bronze pillars, each one eighteen cubits high, with a circumference of twelve cubits.

16 And he made two capitals of molten brass, to set upon the tops of the pillars; the height of the one capital was five cubits, and the height of the other capital was five cubits;

16 He also made two capitals of molten bronze to set on the tops of the pillars; the height of the one capital was five (c)cubits and the height of the other capital was five cubits.

16 And he made two chapiters of molten brass, to set upon the tops of the pillars: the height of the one chapiter was five cubits, and the height of the other chapiter was five cubits:

16 He also made two capitals(L) of cast bronze to set on top of the pillars; 7½ feet(r) was the height of the first capital, and 7½ feet(s) was also the height of the second capital.

16 He also crafted two capitals of cast bronze and set them on top of the pillars. The height of one capital was five cubits, and the height of the other capital was five cubits.

17 and nets of checker-work, wreaths of chain-work, for the capitals which were upon the top of the pillars; seven for the one capital and seven for the other capital.

17 There were nets of network and twisted threads of chainwork for the capitals which were on the top of the pillars; seven for the one capital and seven for the other capital.

17 And nets of checker work, and wreaths of chain work, for the chapiters which were upon the top of the pillars; seven for the one chapiter, and seven for the other chapiter.

17 The capitals on top of the pillars had gratings of latticework, wreaths(t) made of chainwork—seven for the first capital and seven for the second.

17 A network of latticework on top of the pillars was inlaid with ornamental wreaths and chains, the top of each pillar containing seven groups of ornamental structures.

18 And he made pomegranates, namely two rows round about upon the one network, to cover the capitals that were upon the top of the pillars; and so he did for the other capital.

18 So he made the pillars, and two rows around on the one network to cover the capitals which were on the top of the pomegranates; and so he did for the other capital.

18 And he made the pillars, and two rows round about upon the one network, to cover the chapiters that were upon the top, with pomegranates: and so did he for the other chapiter.

18 He made the pillars with two encircling rows of pomegranates on the one grating to cover the capital on top; he did the same for the second capital.

18 The pillars contained two rows of ornaments shaped like pomegranates around the latticework covering the top of each pillar.

19 And the capitals that were upon the top of the pillars were of lily-work as in the porch, four cubits.

19 The capitals which were on the top of the pillars in the porch were of lily design, four cubits.

19 And the chapiters that were upon the top of the pillars were of lily work in the porch, four cubits.

19 And the capitals on top of the pillars in the portico were shaped like lilies, six feet(u) high.

19 The capitals on top of each pillar above the rounded latticework contained four cubits of lily designs,

20 And the capitals upon the two pillars, above also, close to the enlargement which was behind the network, had two hundred pomegranates in rows round about, also on the other capital.

20 There were capitals on the two pillars, even above and close to the (d)rounded projection which was beside the network; and (Q)the pomegranates numbered two hundred in rows around (e)both capitals.

20 And the chapiters upon the two pillars had pomegranates also above, over against the belly which was by the network: and the pomegranates were two hundred in rows round about upon the other chapiter.

20 The capitals on the two pillars were also immediately above the rounded surface next to the grating, and 200 pomegranates(M) were in rows encircling each(v) capital.

20 with the capitals on the two pillars covered by 200 pomegranates in rows around both the capitals above and adjoining the rounded latticework.

21 And he set up the pillars for the porch of the temple; and he set up the right pillar, and called its name Jachin; and he set up the left pillar, and called its name Boaz.

21 (R)Thus he set up the pillars at the (S)porch of the nave; and he set up the right pillar and named it (f)Jachin, and he set up the left pillar and named it (g)Boaz.

21 And he set up the pillars in the porch of the temple: and he set up the right pillar, and called the name thereof Jachin: and he set up the left pillar, and called the name thereof Boaz.

21 He set up the pillars at the portico(N) of the sanctuary: he set up the right pillar and named it Jachin;(w) then he set up the left pillar and named it Boaz.(x)(O)

21 That's how he designed the pillars at the portico of the sanctuary. When he set up the right pillar, he named it Jachin. When he set up the left pillar, he named it Boaz.

22 And upon the top of the pillars was lily-work; and the work of the pillars was finished.

22 On the top of the pillars was lily design. So the work of the pillars was finished.

22 And upon the top of the pillars was lily work: so was the work of the pillars finished.

22 The tops of the pillars were shaped like lilies. Then the work of the pillars was completed.(P)

22 The work on the pillars was finished with a lily design on top of the pillars.

The Reservoir

23 And he made the sea, molten, ten cubits from brim to brim, round all about; and its height was five cubits; and a line of thirty cubits encompassed it round about.

23 (T)Now he made the sea of (U)cast metal ten cubits from brim to brim, circular in form, and its height was five cubits, and (h)thirty cubits in circumference.

23 And he made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.

23 He made the cast metal reservoir,(y)(Q) 15 feet(z) from brim to brim, perfectly round. It was 7½ feet(aa) high and 45 feet(ab) in circumference.

23 Hiram also made a sea of cast metal ten cubits from brim to brim, circular in shape and five cubits and 30 cubits in its inner circumference.

24 And under the brim of it round about there were colocynths, encompassing it, ten in a cubit enclosing the sea round about; two rows of colocynths, cast when it was cast.

24 Under its brim (V)gourds went around encircling it ten to a cubit, (W)completely surrounding the sea; the gourds were in two rows, cast (i)with the rest.

24 And under the brim of it round about there were knops compassing it, ten in a cubit, compassing the sea round about: the knops were cast in two rows, when it was cast.

24 Ornamental gourds(R) encircled it below the brim, 10 every half yard,(ac) completely encircling the reservoir.(S) The gourds were cast in two rows when the reservoir was cast.

24 Under the brim, completely encircling it, were two rows of gourds inlaid as part of the original casting, ten to a cubit.

25 It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east; and the sea was above upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward.

25 (X)It stood on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east; and the sea was set on top of them, and all their rear parts turned inward.

25 It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east: and the sea was set above upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward.

25 It stood on 12 oxen,(T) three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east. The reservoir was on top of them and all their hindquarters were toward the center.

25 The sea stood on top of twelve oxen. Three faced north, three faced west, three faced south, and three faced east. The sea was set on top of them, and their hind parts faced the center.

26 And its thickness was a hand-breadth, and its brim was like the work of the brim of a cup, with lily-blossoms; it held two thousand baths.

26 It was a handbreadth thick, and its brim was made like the brim of a cup, as a lily blossom; it could hold two thousand baths.

26 And it was an hand breadth thick, and the brim thereof was wrought like the brim of a cup, with flowers of lilies: it contained two thousand baths.

26 The reservoir was three inches(ad) thick, and its rim was fashioned like the brim of a cup or of a lily blossom. It held 11,000 gallons.(ae)

26 The reservoir, which held about 2,000 baths, stood about a handbreadth thick, and its rim looked like the brim of a cup or of a lily blossom.

The Bronze Water Carts

27 And he made ten bases of brass: four cubits was the length of one base, and the breadth four cubits, and the height three cubits.

27 Then (Y)he made the ten stands of bronze; the length of each stand was four cubits and its width four cubits and its height three cubits.

27 And he made ten bases of brass; four cubits was the length of one base, and four cubits the breadth thereof, and three cubits the height of it.

27 Then he made 10 bronze water carts.(af)(U) Each water cart was six feet(ag) long, six feet(ah) wide, and 4½ feet(ai) high.

27 Hiram also made ten bronze water carts. Each one was four cubits wide, four cubits long, and three cubits high.

28 And the work of the bases was this: they had panels, and the panels were between the fillets.

28 This was the design of the stands: they had borders, even borders between the (j)frames,

28 And the work of the bases was on this manner: they had borders, and the borders were between the ledges:

28 This was the design of the carts: They had frames; the frames were between the cross-pieces,

28 The carts were designed with borders between cross-pieces,

29 And on the panels that were between the fillets were lions, oxen and cherubim; and over the fillets there was a base above; and beneath the lions and oxen were garlands of festoon-work.

29 and on the borders which were between the (k)frames were lions, oxen and cherubim; and on the (l)frames there was a pedestal above, and beneath the lions and oxen were wreaths of hanging work.

29 And on the borders that were between the ledges were lions, oxen, and cherubims: and upon the ledges there was a base above: and beneath the lions and oxen were certain additions made of thin work.

29 and on the frames between the cross-pieces were lions, oxen, and cherubim.(V) On the cross-pieces there was a pedestal above, and below the lions and oxen were wreaths of hanging(aj) work.

29 and on the borders between the cross-pieces were lions, oxen, and cherubim. A pedestal was placed above the cross-pieces, and beneath the lions and oxen there were wreaths hanging down.

30 And every base had four wheels of brass, and axles of brass; and on its four corners were shoulder-pieces: under the laver were shoulder-pieces molten, behind every garland.

30 Now each stand had four bronze wheels with bronze axles, and its four feet had supports; beneath the basin were cast supports with wreaths at each side.

30 And every base had four brasen wheels, and plates of brass: and the four corners thereof had undersetters: under the laver were undersetters molten, at the side of every addition.

30 Each cart(W) had four bronze wheels with bronze axles. Underneath the four corners of the basin were cast supports, each next to a wreath.

30 Each cart had four bronze wheels equipped with bronze axles with four support feet. Beneath the basin were cast support structures made like wreaths on each side.

31 And the mouth of it within the crown and above was a cubit; and its mouth was rounded, as the work of the base, a cubit and a half; and also upon its mouth was sculpture; but their panels were square, not round.

31 Its opening inside the crown at the top was a cubit, and its opening was round like the design of a pedestal, a cubit and a half; and also on its opening there were engravings, and their borders were square, not round.

31 And the mouth of it within the chapiter and above was a cubit: but the mouth thereof was round after the work of the base, a cubit and an half: and also upon the mouth of it were gravings with their borders, foursquare, not round.

31 And the water cart’s opening inside the crown on top was 18 inches(ak) wide. The opening was round, made as a pedestal 27 inches(al) wide. On it were carvings, but their frames were square, not round.

31 The opening to each water cart inside the crown on top was one cubit wide, with engravings on the opening. The borders to the frames surrounding the opening were square, not round.

32 And the four wheels were under the panels; and the supports of the wheels were in the base; and the height of a wheel was a cubit and half a cubit.

32 The four wheels were underneath the borders, and the axles of the wheels were on the stand. And the height of a wheel was a cubit and a half.

32 And under the borders were four wheels; and the axletrees of the wheels were joined to the base: and the height of a wheel was a cubit and half a cubit.

32 There were four wheels under the frames, and the wheel axles were part of the water cart; each wheel was 27 inches(am) tall.

32 The four wheels were placed underneath the borders, and the axles for the wheels were on the stand. Each wheel stood one and a half cubits high.

33 And the work of the wheels was like the work of a chariot wheel: their supports, and their rims, and their spokes and their naves were all molten.

33 The workmanship of the wheels was like the workmanship of a chariot wheel. Their axles, their rims, their spokes, and their hubs were all cast.

33 And the work of the wheels was like the work of a chariot wheel: their axletrees, and their naves, and their felloes, and their spokes, were all molten.

33 The wheels’ design was similar to that of chariot wheels: their axles, rims, spokes, and hubs were all of cast metal.

33 The wheels resembled those of a chariot, with their axles, rims, spokes, and hubs made of cast bronze.

34 And there were four shoulder-pieces to the four corners of one base; of the base itself were its shoulder-pieces.

34 Now there were four supports at the four corners of each stand; its supports were part of the stand itself.

34 And there were four undersetters to the four corners of one base: and the undersetters were of the very base itself.

34 Four supports were at the four corners of each water cart; each support was one piece with the water cart.

34 Four supports stood at the four corners of each cart, built into the carts themselves.

35 And in the top of the base there was a circular elevation of half a cubit round about; and on the top of the base its stays and its panels were of the same.

35 On the top of the stand there was a circular form half a (m)cubit high, and on the top of the stand its (n)stays and its borders were part of it.

35 And in the top of the base was there a round compass of half a cubit high: and on the top of the base the ledges thereof and the borders thereof were of the same.

35 At the top of the cart was a band nine inches(an) high encircling it; also, at the top of the cart, its braces and its frames were one piece with it.

35 On top of each stand was a circular structure one half of one cubit high, with its braces and support frames integral with it, forming a single piece.

36 And he engraved on the plates of its stays and on its panels cherubim, lions and palm-trees, according to the space upon each; and garlands were round about.

36 He engraved on the plates of its stays and on its borders, cherubim, lions and palm trees, according to the clear space on each, with wreaths all around.

36 For on the plates of the ledges thereof, and on the borders thereof, he graved cherubims, lions, and palm trees, according to the proportion of every one, and additions round about.

36 He engraved cherubim, lions, and palm trees(X) on the plates of its braces and on its frames, wherever each had space, with encircling wreaths.

36 Hiram engraved ornamental cherubim, lions, and palm trees on the surfaces of the supports and frames wherever there was space to do so, and encircled the artwork with wreaths.

37 After this manner he made the ten bases: all of them had one casting, one measure, one form.

37 (Z)He made the ten stands like this: all of them had one casting, one measure and one form.

37 After this manner he made the ten bases: all of them had one casting, one measure, and one size.

37 In this way he made the 10 water carts using the same casting, dimensions, and shape for all of them.

37 He made ten identical water carts by using the same plans, castings, and shapes for all of them.

Bronze Basins And Other Utensils

38 And he made ten lavers of brass: one laver contained forty baths; every laver was four cubits; upon every one of the ten bases one laver.

38 (AA)He made ten basins of bronze, one basin held forty baths; each basin was four cubits, and on each of the ten stands was one basin.

38 Then made he ten lavers of brass: one laver contained forty baths: and every laver was four cubits: and upon every one of the ten bases one laver.

38 Then he made 10 bronze basins(Y)—each basin holding 220 gallons(ao) and each was six feet(ap) wide—one basin for each of the 10 water carts.

38 Hiram also fashioned ten bronze basins, each holding about 40 baths, each basin measuring four cubits in diameter, with one basin for each stand.

39 And he put the bases, five on the right side of the house, and five on the left side of the house; and he set the sea on the right side of the house eastward, over against the south.

39 Then he set the stands, five on the right side of the house and five on the left side of the house; and he set the sea of cast metal on the right side of the house eastward toward the south.

39 And he put five bases on the right side of the house, and five on the left side of the house: and he set the sea on the right side of the house eastward over against the south.

39 He set five water carts on the right side of the temple and five on the left side. He put the reservoir near the right side of the temple toward the southeast.(Z)

39 He set five of the stands on the right side of the Temple and five on the left side of the Temple. He set the bronze sea on the right side of the Temple eastward facing the south.

40 And Hiram made the lavers, and the shovels, and the bowls. So Hiram ended doing all the work that he made for king Solomon for the house of Jehovah:

40 Now Hiram made the basins and the shovels and the bowls. So Hiram finished doing all the work which he performed for King Solomon in the house of the Lord:

40 And Hiram made the lavers, and the shovels, and the basons. So Hiram made an end of doing all the work that he made king Solomon for the house of the LORD:

40 Then Hiram made(AA) the basins, the shovels, and the sprinkling basins. So Hiram finished all the work that he was doing for King Solomon on the Lord’s temple:

40 Hiram also made the basins, shovels, and bowls to complete the work that he performed for King Solomon in the LORD's Temple,
