Revival And Victory At Mizpah

1 The men of Kiriath Jearim came and brought up the ark of Yahweh, and they brought it to the house of Abinadab in Gibeah. They consecrated Eleazer his son to guard the ark of Yahweh.

1 And the men of Kirjathjearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD.

1 And the men of Kiriath-jearim came and took the ark of the Lord and (A)brought it into the house of Abinadab on the hill, and consecrated Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the Lord.

1 So the men of Kiriath-jearim came for the ark of the Lord and took it to Abinadab’s house on the hill.(A) They consecrated his son Eleazar to take care of it.

1 The men of Kiriath-jearim came and took the Ark of the LORD. They brought it to the house of Abinadab on the hill, and they consecrated his son Eleazar to care for the Ark of the LORD.

Victory At Mizpah

2 {From} the day the ark stayed in Kiriath Jearim, {days multiplied and became twenty years} while all the house of Israel mourned after Yahweh.

2 And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjathjearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.

2 From the day that the ark remained at Kiriath-jearim, the time was long, for it was twenty years; and all the house of Israel lamented after the Lord.

2 Time went by until 20 years had passed since the ark had been taken to Kiriath-jearim. Then the whole house of Israel began to seek the Lord.

2 A long time passed it was twenty years from the time the Ark came to reside in Kiriath-jearim, and all the house of Israel mourned because of the LORD.

Samuel Judges Israel

3 And Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, "If with all your heart you [are] turning to Yahweh, remove the foreign gods and Ashtoreths from your midst. Commit your hearts to Yahweh and serve him alone. Then he will deliver you from the hand of [the] Philistines."

3 And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.

3 Then Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “(B)If you return to the Lord with all your heart, (C)remove the foreign gods and the (D)Ashtaroth from among you and (E)direct your hearts to the Lord and (F)serve Him alone; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.”

3 Samuel told them, “If you(B) are returning to the Lord(C) with all your heart,(D) get rid of the foreign gods(E) and the Ashtoreths that are among you, dedicate yourselves to(a) the Lord, and worship only Him.(F) Then He will rescue you from the hand of the Philistines.”

3 Then Samuel told the whole house of Israel, "If you're returning to the LORD with all your heart, then remove the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, direct your hearts back to the LORD, and serve him only. Then he will deliver you from the control of the Philistines."

4 So the {Israelites} removed the Baals and the Ashtoreths, and they served Yahweh alone.

4 Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.

4 So the sons of Israel removed the Baals and the Ashtaroth and served the Lord alone.

4 So the Israelites removed the Baals and the Ashtoreths(G) and only worshiped the Lord.

4 So the Israelis removed the Baals and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.

5 Then Samuel said, "Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray to Yahweh for you."

5 And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD.

5 Then Samuel said, “Gather all Israel to (G)Mizpah and (H)I will pray to the Lord for you.”

5 Samuel said, “Gather all Israel at Mizpah,(H) and I will pray to the Lord on your behalf.”(I)

5 Samuel said, "Bring all Israel together at Mizpah, and I'll pray to the LORD on your behalf."

6 So they gathered to Mizpah and drew water and poured [it] out before Yahweh. They fasted on that day and said there, "We have sinned against Yahweh!" So Samuel judged the {Israelites} at Mizpah.

6 And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.

6 They gathered to Mizpah, and drew water and (I)poured it out before the Lord, and (J)fasted on that day and said there, “(K)We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the sons of Israel at Mizpah.

6 When they gathered at Mizpah, they drew water and poured it out in the Lord’s presence.(J) They fasted that day,(K) and there they confessed, “We have sinned against the Lord.”(L) And Samuel judged the Israelites at Mizpah.

6 So they came together at Mizpah, drew water, and poured it out in the LORD's presence.

The Philistines Defeated

7 [Now] when [the] Philistines heard that the {Israelites} had gathered at Mizpah, the rulers of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the {Israelites} heard [of it], {they were afraid of the Philistines}.

7 And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.

7 Now when the Philistines heard that the sons of Israel had gathered to Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the sons of Israel heard it, (L)they were afraid of the Philistines.

7 When the Philistines heard that the Israelites had gathered at Mizpah, their rulers marched up toward Israel. When the Israelites heard about it, they were afraid because of the Philistines.

7 On that day they fasted there and said, "We have sinned against the LORD." Then Samuel judged the Israelis at Mizpah. When the Philistines heard that the Israelis had gathered at Mizpah, the Philistine lords came up against Israel. When the Israelis heard this, they were afraid of the Philistines.

8 Then the {Israelites} said to Samuel, "{You must not cease} from crying out to Yahweh our God, so that he will deliver us from the hand of [the] Philistines."

8 And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the LORD our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.

8 Then the sons of Israel said to Samuel, “(M)Do not cease to cry to the Lord our God for us, that He may save us from the hand of the Philistines.”

8 The Israelites said to Samuel, “Don’t stop crying out to the Lord our God for us, so that He will save us from the hand of the Philistines.”

8 The Israelis told Samuel, "Don't stop crying out to the LORD our God for us that he may deliver us from the hand of the Philistines."

9 So Samuel took a single {nursing lamb} and sacrificed [it] as a whole burnt offering to Yahweh. Then Samuel cried out to Yahweh on behalf of Israel, and Yahweh answered him.

9 And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel cried unto the LORD for Israel; and the LORD heard him.

9 Samuel took (N)a suckling lamb and offered it for a whole burnt offering to the Lord; and Samuel cried to the Lord for Israel and (O)the Lord answered him.

9 Then Samuel took a young lamb(M) and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. He cried out to the Lord on behalf of Israel, and the Lord answered him.(N)

9 Then Samuel took a nursing lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the LORD. Samuel cried out to the LORD on behalf of Israel, and the LORD answered him.

10 {While} Samuel [was] sacrificing the burnt offering, [the] Philistines drew near for the battle against Israel. But Yahweh thundered against [the] Philistines with a great noise on that day and threw them into confusion so that they were defeated before Israel.

10 And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel.

10 Now Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, and the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel. But (P)the Lord thundered with a great (a)thunder on that day against the Philistines and (Q)confused them, so that they were (b)routed before Israel.

10 Samuel was offering the burnt offering as the Philistines drew near to fight against Israel. The Lord thundered loudly(O) against the Philistines that day and threw them into such confusion that they fled before Israel.(P)

10 While Samuel was sacrificing the burnt offering, the Philistines approached to attack Israel. But that day the LORD thundered against the Philistines and threw them into panic, and they were defeated before Israel.

11 Then the men of Israel went out from Mizpah and pursued [the] Philistines and they struck them down as far as below Beth Car.

11 And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Bethcar.

11 The men of Israel went out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, and struck them down as far as below Beth-car.

11 Then the men of Israel charged out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines striking them down all the way to a place below Beth-car.

11 The men of Israel went out from Mizpah, pursued the Philistines, and struck them down as far as a point below Beth-car.

Peace Comes To Israel

12 So Samuel took a single stone and put [it] between Mizpah and Shen, and he named it Ebenezer and said, "Up to here Yahweh has helped us."

12 Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.

12 Then Samuel (R)took a stone and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and named it (c)Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”

12 Afterward, Samuel took a stone and set it upright(Q) between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer,(b) explaining, “The Lord has helped us to this point.”

12 Then Samuel took a stone, placed it between Mizpah and Shen and named it Ebenezer. He said, "The LORD has helped us this far."

13 So the Philistines were subdued and they did not come into the territory of Israel again, and the hand of Yahweh was against [the] Philistines all the days of Samuel.

13 So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

13 (S)So the Philistines were subdued and (T)they did not come anymore within the border of Israel. And the hand of the Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

13 So the Philistines were subdued(R) and(c) did not invade Israel’s territory again.(S) The Lord’s hand was against the Philistines all of Samuel’s life.

13 The Philistines were subdued, and they did not continue to enter the territory of Israel.

14 The towns which [the] Philistines had taken from Israel [were] returned to Israel from Ekron to Gath, and Israel delivered their territories from the hand of [the] Philistines. Then there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.

14 And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.

14 The cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even to Gath; and Israel delivered their territory from the hand of the Philistines. So there was peace between Israel and (U)the Amorites.

14 The cities from Ekron to Gath, which they had taken from Israel, were restored; Israel even rescued their surrounding territories from Philistine control. There was also peace between Israel and the Amorites.

14 The LORD continued to oppose the Philistines all during Samuel's life time. The towns that the Philistines had taken from Israel were returned to Israel, from Ekron to Gath, and Israel delivered their territory from Philistine control. There was also peace between Israel and the Amorites.

The Circuit Ministry Of Samuel

15 Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

15 And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

15 Now Samuel (V)judged Israel all the days of his life.

15 Samuel judged Israel throughout his life.(T)

15 Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

16 He used to go [on the circuit] {from year to year}. He went around Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah, and he judged Israel [in] all these places.

16 And he went from year to year in circuit to Bethel, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places.

16 He used to go annually on circuit to (W)Bethel and (X)Gilgal and (Y)Mizpah, and he judged Israel in all these places.

16 Every year he would go on a circuit to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah and would judge Israel at all these locations.

16 He went on a circuit each year to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah, and he judged Israel in all those places.

17 Then {he returned} to Ramah, because his house was there, and there he judged Israel, and he built an altar to Yahweh there.

17 And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.

17 Then his return was to (Z)Ramah, for his house was there, and there he judged Israel; and he (AA)built there an altar to the Lord.

17 Then he would return to Ramah(U) because his home was there, he judged Israel there, and he built an altar to the Lord there.

17 He would return to Ramah because his house was there, and judged Israel from there. He also built an altar to the LORD there.
