Instructions To Pray For All People

1 First of all, then, I urge you to offer to God petitions, prayers, intercessions, and expressions of thanks for all people,

2 for kings, and for everyone who has authority, so that we might lead a quiet and peaceful life with all godliness and dignity.

2 (B)for kings and all who are in (a)authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and (b)dignity.

2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,

3 This [kind of praying] is good and acceptable and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,

4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to know the truth fully.

4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

5 There is one God. There is also one mediator between God and human beings a human, the Messiah Jesus.

7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.

7 For this I was appointed a herald, an apostle(L) (I am telling the truth;(a) I am not lying), and a teacher of the Gentiles(M) in faith and truth.

7 And for this matter I was appointed a preacher and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying [when I say this]—a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

Instructions To Men And Women

8 Therefore, I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without being angry or argumentative.

8 Therefore (Q)I want the men (R)in every place to pray, (S)lifting up (T)holy hands, without wrath and dissension.

8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

8 Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument.(N)

8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger and disputing or quarreling or doubt [in their mind].

Instructions For Women

9 Women, for their part, should display their beauty by dressing modestly and decently in appropriate clothes, not with elaborate hairstyles or by wearing gold, pearls, or expensive clothes,

9 Likewise, I want (U)women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, (g)modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments,

9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

9 Also, the women are to dress themselves in modest clothing,(O) with decency and good sense, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold,(P) pearls, or expensive apparel,

9 Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves modestly and appropriately and discreetly in proper clothing, not with [elaborately] braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive clothes,

10 but through good actions. This is proper for women who claim to revere God.

10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness.

10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

10 but with good works,(Q) as is proper for women who affirm that they worship God.

10 but instead adorned by good deeds [helping others], as is proper for women who profess to worship God.

11 Let a woman learn with a quiet spirit, and submissively.

11 (V)A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.

11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.

11 A woman should learn in silence with full submission.(R)

12 Moreover, in the area of teaching, I am not allowing a woman to instigate conflict toward a man. Instead, she is to remain calm.

12 (W)But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.

12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

12 I do not allow a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; instead, she is to be silent.

12 I do not allow a woman to (c)teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet [in the congregation].

13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve,

13 (X)For it was Adam who was first (h)created, and then Eve.

13 For Adam was formed first [by God from the earth], then Eve;(A)

14 and it was not Adam who was deceived. It was the woman who was deceived and became disobedient,

14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and transgressed.(T)

14 and it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman who was led astray and (d)fell into sin.(B)

15 even though she will be saved through the birth of the Child, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, along with good judgment.

15 But women will be (j)preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in (Z)faith and love and sanctity with (k)self-restraint.

15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

15 But she will be saved through childbearing, if she continues(b) in faith, love, and holiness,(U) with good judgment.

15 But women will be (e)preserved (saved) through [the pain and dangers of] the bearing of children (f)if they continue in faith and love and holiness with self-control and discretion.
