3 He in the first year of his reign, in the first month, opened the doors of the house of the LORD, and repaired them.

3 In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he (C)opened the doors of the house of the Lord and repaired them.

3 In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the Lord’s temple and repaired them.(C)

3 In the first month of the first year of his reign he repaired and reopened the doors of the LORD's Temple.

3 In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the house of the Lord [which his father had closed] and repaired them [and replaced the gold overlay].(A)

4 And he brought in the priests and the Levites, and gathered them together into the east street,

4 He brought in the priests and the Levites and gathered them into the square on the east.

4 Then he brought in the priests and Levites and gathered them in the eastern public square.(D)

4 Then he brought in the priests and descendants of Levi, gathered them into the square in the eastern part of the Temple,

4 He brought in the priests and Levites and gathered them into the square on the east.

5 And said unto them, Hear me, ye Levites, sanctify now yourselves, and sanctify the house of the LORD God of your fathers, and carry forth the filthiness out of the holy place.

5 Then he said to them, “Listen to me, O Levites. (D)Consecrate yourselves now, and consecrate the house of the Lord, the God of your fathers, and carry the uncleanness out from the holy place.

5 He said to them, “Hear me, Levites. Consecrate yourselves(E) now and consecrate the temple of Yahweh, the God of your ancestors. Remove everything impure from the holy place.

5 and told them,

5 Then he said to them, “Levites, listen to me! Now consecrate (dedicate) yourselves and consecrate the house of the Lord, the God of your fathers, and get the filth [of idol worship] out of the Holy Place.

6 For our fathers have trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs.

6 For our fathers have been unfaithful and have done evil in the sight of the Lord our God, and have forsaken Him and (E)turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the Lord, and have (a)turned their backs.

6 For our fathers were unfaithful and did what is evil in the sight of the Lord our God. They abandoned Him, turned their faces away from the Lord’s tabernacle, and turned their backs on Him.(b)(F)

6 "Pay attention to me, you descendants of Levi! Consecrate yourselves and the Temple of the LORD God of your ancestors by taking out from the Holy Place whatever is unclean. Our ancestors have been unfaithful. They practiced what the LORD considers to be evil, abandoned him, turned their faces away from the place where the LORD resides, and turned their backs to him.

6 For our fathers have been unfaithful and have done evil in the sight of the Lord our God, and they have abandoned Him and have turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the Lord, and have turned their backs [toward Him].

7 Also they have shut up the doors of the porch, and put out the lamps, and have not burned incense nor offered burnt offerings in the holy place unto the God of Israel.

7 They have also (F)shut the doors of the porch and put out the lamps, and have not burned incense or offered burnt offerings in the holy place to the God of Israel.

7 They also closed the doors of the portico, extinguished the lamps, did not burn incense, and did not offer burnt offerings in the holy place of the God of Israel.

7 They shut the doors to the vestibule of the Temple, extinguished its lamps, and have not burned incense or offered burnt offerings to the God of Israel in the Holy Place.

7 They have also closed the doors of the [temple] porch and put out the lamps, and they have not burned incense nor offered burnt offerings in the Holy Place to the God of Israel.(B)

8 Wherefore the wrath of the LORD was upon Judah and Jerusalem, and he hath delivered them to trouble, to astonishment, and to hissing, as ye see with your eyes.

8 Therefore (G)the wrath of the Lord was against Judah and Jerusalem, and He has made them an object of terror, of horror, and of (H)hissing, as you see with your own eyes.

8 Therefore, the wrath of the Lord was on Judah and Jerusalem, and He made them an object of terror, horror, and mockery,(c)(G) as you see with your own eyes.

8 That's why the LORD was angry with Judah and Jerusalem and made them an object of terror, horror, and derision, as you've seen with your own eyes.

8 Therefore the wrath of the Lord has been against Judah and Jerusalem, and He has made them an object of terror, of horror, and of hissing, just as you see with your own eyes.

9 For, lo, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity for this.

9 For behold, (I)our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity for this.

9 Our fathers fell by the sword, and our sons, our daughters, and our wives are in captivity because of this.(H)

9 Now look! Our ancestors have been killed with swords and our sons, daughters, and wives are being held captive because of all of this.

9 For behold, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity because of this.

10 Now it is in mine heart to make a covenant with the LORD God of Israel, that his fierce wrath may turn away from us.

10 Now it is in my heart (J)to make a covenant with the Lord God of Israel, that His burning anger may turn away from us.

10 It is in my heart now to make a covenant with Yahweh, the God of Israel(I) so that His burning anger may turn away from us.

10 I'm intending to make a covenant with the LORD God of Israel so his burning anger may turn away from us.

10 Now it is in my heart to make a covenant (solemn agreement) with the Lord God of Israel, so that His burning anger will turn away from us.

11 My sons, be not now negligent: for the LORD hath chosen you to stand before him, to serve him, and that ye should minister unto him, and burn incense.

11 My sons, do not be negligent now, for (K)the Lord has chosen you to stand before Him, to minister to Him, and to be His ministers and burn incense.”

11 My sons, don’t be negligent now, for the Lord has chosen you to stand in His presence, to serve Him, and to be His ministers and burners of incense.”(J)

11 Please don't be careless, you descendants of Aaron, because the LORD has chosen you to minister in his presence, to serve him, to be his ministers, and to burn incense."

11 My sons, do not be negligent and careless now, for the Lord has chosen you to stand in His presence, to attend to His service, and to be His ministers and burn incense.”

15 They gathered their brothers (fellow Levites) together, consecrated themselves, and went in to cleanse the house of the Lord, as the king had commanded by the words of the Lord.

16 And the priests went into the inner part of the house of the LORD, to cleanse it, and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the LORD into the court of the house of the LORD. And the Levites took it, to carry it out abroad into the brook Kidron.

16 So the priests went in to the inner part of the house of the Lord to cleanse it, and every unclean thing which they found in the temple of the Lord they brought out to the court of the house of the Lord. Then the Levites received it to carry out to (Q)the Kidron (d)valley.

16 The priests went into the inner part of the house of the Lord to cleanse it, and every unclean thing they found in the temple of the Lord they brought out to the courtyard of the Lord’s house. Then the Levites received it to take out to the Kidron Valley [for disposal].

17 Now they began on the first day of the first month to sanctify, and on the eighth day of the month came they to the porch of the LORD: so they sanctified the house of the LORD in eight days; and in the sixteenth day of the first month they made an end.

17 Now they began (e)the consecration (R)on the first day of the first month, and on the eighth day of the month they entered the porch of the Lord. Then they consecrated the house of the Lord in eight days, and finished on the sixteenth day of the first month.

17 They began the consecration on the first day of the first month, and on the eighth day of the month they came to the portico of the Lord’s temple. They consecrated the Lord’s temple for eight days, and on the sixteenth day of the first month they finished.

18 Then they went in to Hezekiah the king, and said, We have cleansed all the house of the LORD, and the altar of burnt offering, with all the vessels thereof, and the shewbread table, with all the vessels thereof.

18 Then they went in to King Hezekiah and said, “We have cleansed the whole house of the Lord, the altar of burnt offering with all of its utensils, and the table of showbread with all of its utensils.

19 Moreover, (S)all the utensils which King Ahaz had discarded during his reign in his unfaithfulness, we have prepared and consecrated; and behold, they are before the altar of the Lord.”

19 We have set up and consecrated all the utensils that King Ahaz rejected during his reign(Q) when he became unfaithful. They are in front of the altar of the Lord.”

19 Moreover, we have prepared and consecrated all the utensils which King Ahaz had discarded during his reign in his unfaithfulness; and behold, they are in front of the altar of the Lord.”

Renewal Of Temple Worship

20 Then Hezekiah the king rose early, and gathered the rulers of the city, and went up to the house of the LORD.

20 Then King Hezekiah arose early and assembled the princes of the city and went up to the house of the Lord.

20 King Hezekiah got up early, gathered the city officials, and went to the Lord’s temple.

20 Early the next morning, King Hezekiah got up and assembled the city officials and went up to the LORD's Temple,

20 Then King Hezekiah arose early and assembled the officials of the city, and went up to the house of the Lord.

21 And they brought seven bullocks, and seven rams, and seven lambs, and seven he goats, for a sin offering for the kingdom, and for the sanctuary, and for Judah. And he commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them on the altar of the LORD.

21 They brought seven bulls, seven rams, seven lambs and seven male goats (T)for a sin offering for the kingdom, the sanctuary, and Judah. And he ordered the priests, the sons of Aaron, to offer them on the altar of the Lord.

21 They brought seven bulls, seven rams, seven lambs, and seven male goats as a sin offering for the kingdom, for the sanctuary, and for Judah. Then he told the descendants of Aaron, the priests, to offer them on the altar of the Lord.

21 where they brought seven rams, seven lambs, and seven male goats for a sin offering on behalf of the kingdom, the Holy Place, and Judah. He ordered that the priests, as descendants of Aaron, place the offerings on the LORD's altar.

21 They brought seven bulls, seven rams, seven lambs, and seven male goats for a sin offering for the kingdom, the sanctuary, and Judah. He commanded the priests, the sons of Aaron, to offer them on the altar of the Lord.

22 So they killed the bullocks, and the priests received the blood, and sprinkled it on the altar: likewise, when they had killed the rams, they sprinkled the blood upon the altar: they killed also the lambs, and they sprinkled the blood upon the altar.

22 So they slaughtered the bulls, and the priests took the blood and sprinkled it on the altar. They also slaughtered the rams and sprinkled the blood on the altar; they slaughtered the lambs also and (U)sprinkled the blood on the altar.

22 So they slaughtered the bulls, and the priests received the blood and sprinkled it on the altar.(R) They slaughtered the rams and sprinkled the blood on the altar. They slaughtered the lambs and sprinkled the blood on the altar.

22 So they slaughtered the bulls and the priests sprinkled the blood on the altar. They also slaughtered the rams and sprinkled the blood on the altar, and they also slaughtered the lambs and sprinkled the blood on the altar.

22 So they slaughtered the bulls, and the priests took the blood and sprinkled it on the altar. They also slaughtered the rams and sprinkled the blood on the altar; then they slaughtered the lambs and sprinkled the blood on the altar.

23 And they brought forth the he goats for the sin offering before the king and the congregation; and they laid their hands upon them:

23 Then they brought the male goats of the sin offering before the king and the assembly, and (V)they laid their hands on them.

23 Then they brought the goats for the sin offering right into the presence of the king and the congregation, who laid their hands on them.(S)

23 They brought the male goats for the sin offering to the king within the assembled gathering, laid their hands on them,

23 Then they brought the male goats for the sin offering before the king and the assembly, and they laid their hands on them [to symbolize the transference of their sin].

24 And the priests killed them, and they made reconciliation with their blood upon the altar, to make an atonement for all Israel: for the king commanded that the burnt offering and the sin offering should be made for all Israel.

24 The priests slaughtered them and purged the altar with their blood (W)to atone for all Israel, for the king ordered the burnt offering and the sin offering for all Israel.

24 The priests slaughtered the goats and put their blood on the altar for a sin offering, to make atonement for all Israel,(T) for the king said that the burnt offering and sin offering were for all Israel.

24 and then the priests slaughtered them and purged the altar with their blood as a sin offering to atone for all Israel, because the king ordered that the burnt offering and the sin offering be made for all Israel.

24 The priests slaughtered them and cleansed the altar from sin with their blood to atone for all Israel, because the king commanded that the burnt offering and the sin offering be made for all Israel.

25 And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king's seer, and Nathan the prophet: for so was the commandment of the LORD by his prophets.

25 (X)He then stationed the Levites in the house of the Lord with cymbals, with harps and with lyres, (Y)according to the command of David and of (Z)Gad the king’s seer, and of (AA)Nathan the prophet; for the command was from the Lord through His prophets.

25 Hezekiah stationed the Levites in the Lord’s temple with cymbals, harps, and lyres(U) according to the command of David,(V) Gad the king’s seer,(W) and Nathan the prophet.(X) For the command was from the Lord through His prophets.

25 Hezekiah stationed descendants of Levi in the LORD's Temple to play cymbals and stringed instruments, just as David, Gad the seer, and Nathan the prophet had directed, because the command to do so was from the LORD through those prophets.

25 Hezekiah stationed the Levites in the house of the Lord with cymbals, with harps, and with lyres, in accordance with the command of David [his ancestor] and of Gad the king’s seer, and of Nathan the prophet; for the command was from the Lord through His prophets.

26 And the Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets.

26 The Levites stood with (AB)the musical instruments of David, and (AC)the priests with the trumpets.

26 The Levites stood with the instruments of David,(Y) and the priests with the trumpets.(Z)

26 The descendants of Levi played instruments that had been crafted by David and the priests sounded trumpets.

26 The Levites stood with the musical instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets.

27 And Hezekiah commanded to offer the burnt offering upon the altar. And when the burnt offering began, the song of the LORD began also with the trumpets, and with the instruments ordained by David king of Israel.

27 Then Hezekiah gave the order to offer the burnt offering on the altar. When the burnt offering began, (AD)the song to the Lord also began with the trumpets, (f)accompanied by the instruments of David, king of Israel.

27 Then Hezekiah ordered that the burnt offering be offered on the altar. When the burnt offerings began, the song of the Lord and the trumpets began, accompanied by the instruments of David king of Israel.

27 Hezekiah gave a command to offer burnt offerings on the altar, and when the burnt offerings began, a song to the LORD also began with trumpets sounding and with the instruments that King David of Israel had crafted.

27 Then Hezekiah gave the order to offer the burnt offering on the altar. And when the burnt offering began, the song to the Lord also began with the trumpets accompanied by the instruments of David, king of Israel.

28 And all the congregation worshipped, and the singers sang, and the trumpeters sounded: and all this continued until the burnt offering was finished.

28 While the whole assembly worshiped, the singers also sang and the trumpets sounded; all this continued until the burnt offering was finished.

28 The whole assembly was worshiping, singing the song, and blowing the trumpets—all of this continued until the burnt offering was completed.

28 Everybody in the assembly worshipped, the singers sang, and the trumpets sounded. They continued doing this until the burnt offering sacrifice was completed.

28 The entire congregation worshiped, the singers also sang, and the trumpets sounded; all this continued until the burnt offering was finished.

29 And when they had made an end of offering, the king and all that were present with him bowed themselves, and worshipped.

29 Now at the completion of the burnt offerings, (AE)the king and all who were present with him bowed down and worshiped.

29 When the burnt offerings were completed, the king and all those present with him bowed down and worshiped.(AA)

29 When the sacrifices had been offered, the king and everyone else who was present with him bowed down and worshipped.

29 When the burnt offerings were completed, the king and all who were present with him bowed down and worshiped [God].

30 Moreover Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praise unto the LORD with the words of David, and of Asaph the seer. And they sang praises with gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshipped.

30 Moreover, King Hezekiah and the officials ordered the Levites to sing praises to the Lord with the words of David and Asaph the seer. (AF)So they sang praises with joy, and bowed down and worshiped.

30 Then King Hezekiah and the officials told the Levites to sing praise to the Lord in the words of David and of Asaph the seer. So they sang praises with rejoicing and bowed down and worshiped.

30 King Hezekiah and his officials ordered the descendants of Levi to sing praises to the LORD based on psalms that had been written by David and Asaph the seer. So they all joyfully sang praises, bowed low, and worshipped.

30 Also King Hezekiah and the officials ordered the Levites to exclaim praises to the Lord with the words of David and of Asaph the seer. And they exclaimed praises with joy, and bowed down and worshiped.

31 Then Hezekiah answered and said, Now ye have consecrated yourselves unto the LORD, come near and bring sacrifices and thank offerings into the house of the LORD. And the congregation brought in sacrifices and thank offerings; and as many as were of a free heart burnt offerings.

31 Then Hezekiah said, “(AG)Now that you have (g)consecrated yourselves to the Lord, come near and bring sacrifices and thank offerings to the house of the Lord.” And the assembly brought sacrifices and thank offerings, and (AH)all those who were (h)willing brought burnt offerings.

31 Hezekiah concluded, “Now you are consecrated(e) to the Lord. Come near and bring sacrifices and thank offerings to the Lord’s temple.” So the congregation brought sacrifices and thank offerings, and all those with willing hearts(AB) brought burnt offerings.

31 After this, Hezekiah announced, "Now that you've consecrated yourselves to the LORD, come near and bring your sacrifices and thanksgiving offerings to the LORD's Temple." So the assembly brought sacrifices and thanksgiving offerings, and everyone who was willing to do so brought burnt offerings.

31 Then Hezekiah said, “Now you have consecrated yourselves to the Lord; approach and bring sacrifices and thank offerings into the house of the Lord.” And the assembly brought in sacrifices and thank offerings, and all those who were willing brought burnt offerings.(C)

32 And the number of the burnt offerings, which the congregation brought, was threescore and ten bullocks, an hundred rams, and two hundred lambs: all these were for a burnt offering to the LORD.

32 The number of the burnt offerings which the assembly brought was 70 bulls, 100 rams, and 200 lambs; all these were for a burnt offering to the Lord.

32 The number of burnt offerings the congregation brought was 70 bulls, 100 rams, and 200 lambs; all these were for a burnt offering to the Lord.

32 The number of burnt offerings brought by the assembly was 70 bulls, 100 rams, and 200 lambs. All of these were burnt offerings to the LORD.

32 The number of the burnt offerings which the assembly brought was 70 bulls, 100 rams, and 200 lambs. All these were for a burnt offering to the Lord.

33 And the consecrated things were six hundred oxen and three thousand sheep.

33 The consecrated things were 600 bulls and 3,000 sheep.

33 Six hundred bulls and 3,000 sheep were consecrated.

33 The consecrated offerings numbered 600 bulls and 3,000 sheep.

33 The consecrated things were 600 bulls and 3,000 sheep.

34 But the priests were too few, so that they could not flay all the burnt offerings: wherefore their brethren the Levites did help them, till the work was ended, and until the other priests had sanctified themselves: for the Levites were more upright in heart to sanctify themselves than the priests.

34 But the priests were too few, so that they were unable to skin all the burnt offerings; (AI)therefore their brothers the Levites helped them until the work was completed and until the other priests had consecrated themselves. For (AJ)the Levites were more (i)conscientious to consecrate themselves than the priests.

34 However, since there were not enough priests, they weren’t able to skin all the burnt offerings, so their Levite brothers helped them(AC) until the work was finished and until the priests consecrated themselves. For the Levites were more conscientious(f)(AD) to consecrate themselves than the priests were.(AE)

34 Because there weren't enough priests, they were unable to prepare all the burnt offerings until other priests came forward after having consecrated themselves, so their descendant of Levi relatives assisted them until the services were complete. (The descendants of Levi had been more conscientious in consecrating themselves than had been the priests.)

34 But there were too few priests and they were unable to skin all the burnt offerings; so until the other priests had consecrated themselves, their brothers, the Levites, helped them until the work was done. For the Levites were more upright in heart and more conscientious than the priests in consecrating themselves.

35 And also the burnt offerings were in abundance, with the fat of the peace offerings, and the drink offerings for every burnt offering. So the service of the house of the LORD was set in order.

35 There were also (j)(AK)many burnt offerings with (AL)the fat of the peace offerings and with (AM)the libations for the burnt offerings. Thus the service of the house of the Lord was established again.

35 Furthermore, the burnt offerings were abundant, along with the fat of the fellowship offerings(AF) and with the drink offerings(AG) for the burnt offering. So the service of the Lord’s temple was established.

35 Furthermore, there were also many burnt offerings, fat from peace offerings, and drink offerings. And that's how the service of the Lord's Temple was restored.

35 There were also many burnt offerings with the fat of the peace offerings and with the drink offerings for the burnt offerings. So the service of the house of the Lord was established again.

36 And Hezekiah rejoiced, and all the people, that God had prepared the people: for the thing was done suddenly.

36 Then Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced over what God had prepared for the people, because the thing came about suddenly.

36 Then Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced over how God had prepared the people, for it had come about suddenly.

36 Hezekiah and all of the people were ecstatic with joy because of what God had done for the people, since everything had come about so suddenly.

36 Then Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced because of what God had prepared for the people, for the thing came about suddenly.
