David Anointed As King Over All Of Israel

11 Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, "Behold, we are your bone and your flesh.

11 Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

11 All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, "Here we are, your own flesh and blood.

11 After this, all of the tribes of Israel assembled with David at Hebron and declared, "Look, we're your own flesh and blood!

11 Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, Behold, we are your bone and your flesh.

22 "Previously, when Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel out and in And the LORD said to you, 'You will shepherd My people Israel, and you will be a ruler over Israel.'"

22 Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel.

22 Even while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led us out [to battle] and brought us back. The Lord also said to you, 'You will shepherd My people Israel and be ruler over Israel.' "

22 Even back when Saul was our king, it was you who kept on leading Israel out to battle and bringing them back again. The LORD told you, "You yourself will shepherd my people Israel and serve as Commander-in-Chief over Israel.'"

22 In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led out and brought in Israel. And the Lord told you, You shall feed My people Israel and be prince over [them].

33 So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them before the LORD at Hebron; then they anointed David king over Israel.

33 So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.

33 So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron. King David made a covenant with them at Hebron in the Lord's presence, and they anointed David king over Israel.

33 So all the elders of Israel approached the king at Hebron, where King David entered into a covenant with them in the presence of the LORD. Then they anointed David to be king over Israel.

33 So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them [there] before the Lord, and they anointed [him] king over Israel.

44 David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years.

44 David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.

44 David was 30 years old when he began his reign; he reigned 40 years.

44 David began to reign when he was 30 years old, and he reigned 40 years.

55 At Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.

55 In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.

55 In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned 33 years over all Israel and Judah.

55 He reigned over Judah for seven years and six months in Hebron, and he reigned over all of Israel including Judah for 33 years in Jerusalem.

55 In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.

The Capture And Growth Of Jerusalem

66 Now the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, and they said to David, "You shall not come in here, but the blind and lame will turn you away"; thinking, "David cannot enter here."

66 And the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: which spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking, David cannot come in hither.

66 The king and his men marched to Jerusalem against the Jebusites who inhabited the land. The Jebusites had said to David: "You will never get in here. Even the blind and lame can repel you," thinking, "David can't get in here."

66 Later, the king and his army marched on Jerusalem against the Jebusites, who were inhabiting the territory at that time and who had told David, "You're not coming in here! Even the blind and the lame could turn you away!" because they were thinking "David can't come here."

66 And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who said to David, You shall not enter here, for the blind and the lame will prevent you; they thought, David cannot come in here.

77 Nevertheless, David captured the stronghold of Zion, that is the city of David.

77 Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David.

77 Yet David did capture the stronghold of Zion, the city of David.

77 Even so, David captured the stronghold of Zion, which is now known as the City of David.

77 Nevertheless, David took the stronghold of Zion, that is, the City of David.

88 David said on that day, "Whoever would strike the Jebusites, let him reach the lame and the blind, who are hated by David's soul, through the water tunnel." Therefore they say, "The blind or the lame shall not come into the house."

88 And David said on that day, Whosoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind, that are hated of David's soul, he shall be chief and captain. Wherefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.

88 He said that day, "Whoever attacks the Jebusites must go through the water shaft to reach the lame and the blind who are despised by David." For this reason it is said, "The blind and the lame will never enter the house."

88 At that time, David had said, "Whoever intends to attack the Jebusites will have to climb up the water shaft to attack the lame and blind, who hate David."

88 David said on that day, Whoever smites the Jebusites, let him get up through the water shaft and smite the lame and the blind who are detested by David's soul. So they say, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.

99 So David lived in the stronghold and called it the city of David And David built all around from the Millo and inward.

99 So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.

99 David took up residence in the stronghold, which he named the city of David. He built it up all the way around from the supporting terraces inward.

99 Therefore they say, "The blind and lame are never to come into the house." David occupied the fortress, naming it the City of David. He built up the surroundings from the terrace ramparts inward.

99 So David dwelt in the stronghold and called it the City of David. And he built round about from the Millo and inward.

1010 David became greater and greater, for the LORD God of hosts was with him.

1010 And David went on, and grew great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him.

1010 David became more and more powerful, and the Lord God of Hosts was with him.

1010 David became more and more esteemed because the LORD God of the Heavenly Armies was with him.

1010 David became greater and greater, for the Lord God of hosts was with him.

1111 Then Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David with cedar trees and carpenters and stonemasons; and they built a house for David.

1111 And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons: and they built David an house.

1111 King Hiram of Tyre sent envoys to David; [he also sent] cedar logs, carpenters, and stonemasons, and they built a palace for David.

1111 Later, King Hiram of Tyre sent a delegation to David, accompanied by cedar logs, carpenters, and stone masons. They built a palace for David.

1111 Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, carpenters, and masons; and they built David a house.

1212 And David realized that the LORD had established him as king over Israel, and that He had exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.

1212 And David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel's sake.

1212 Then David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.

1212 So David concluded that the LORD had established him as king over Israel and that he had exalted his kingdom in order to benefit his people Israel.

1212 And David perceived that the Lord had established him king over Israel and that He had exalted his kingdom for His people Israel's sake.

1313 Meanwhile David took more concubines and wives from Jerusalem, after he came from Hebron; and more sons and daughters were born to David.

1313 And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron: and there were yet sons and daughters born to David.

1313 After he arrived from Hebron, David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and more sons and daughters were born to him.

1313 But after arriving in Jerusalem after leaving Hebron, David took more wives and mistresses, and more sons and daughters were born to David.

1313 And David took more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he came from Hebron, and other sons and daughters were born to [him].

1414 Now these are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

War With The Philistines

1717 When the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek out David; and when David heard of it, he went down to the stronghold.

1717 But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the hold.

1717 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, they all went in search of David, but he heard about it and went down to the stronghold.

1717 When the Philistines eventually learned that Israel had anointed David to be king over Israel, they marched out in search of him. But David heard about it and retreated to his stronghold.

1717 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, they all went up to find [him], but [he] heard of it and went down to the stronghold.

1818 Now the Philistines came and spread themselves out in the valley of Rephaim.

1818 The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

1818 So the Philistines came and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim.

1818 Meanwhile, the Philistines arrived and encamped in the Rephaim Valley,

1818 The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the Valley of Rephaim.

1919 Then David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You give them into my hand?" And the LORD said to David, "Go up, for I will certainly give the Philistines into your hand."

1919 And David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand.

1919 Then David inquired of the Lord: "Should I go to war against the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?" The Lord replied to David, "Go, for I will certainly hand the Philistines over to you."

1919 so David asked the LORD, "Am I to go attack the Philistines? Will you give me victory over them?" "Go get them," the LORD replied to David, "because I'm going to put the Philistines right into your hand!"

1919 David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand? And the Lord said to David, Go up, for I will surely deliver [them] into your hand.

2020 So David came to Baal-perazim and defeated them there; and he said, "The LORD has broken through my enemies before me like the breakthrough of waters." Therefore he named that place Baal-perazim.

2020 And David came to Baalperazim, and David smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baalperazim.

2020 So David went to Baal-perazim and defeated them there and said, "Like a bursting flood, the Lord has burst out against my enemies before me." Therefore, he named that place the Lord Bursts Out.

2020 So David went to Baal-perazim and defeated them there. He called the place Baal-perazim, because he said, "Like a bursting flood, the LORD has jumped out in front of me to fight my enemies."

2020 And David came to Baal-perazim, and he smote them there, and said, The Lord has broken through my enemies before me, like the bursting out of great waters. So he called the name of that place Baal-perazim [Lord of breaking through].

2121 They abandoned their idols there, so David and his men carried them away.

2121 And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them.

2121 The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David and his men carried them off.

2121 The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David and his army carried them off.

2121 There the Philistines left their images, and David and his men took them away.

2222 Now the Philistines came up once again and spread themselves out in the valley of Rephaim.

2222 And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

2222 The Philistines came up again and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim.

2222 Later, the Philistines once again marched out and encamped in the Rephaim Valley.

2222 The Philistines came up again and spread themselves out in the Valley of Rephaim.

2323 When David inquired of the LORD, He said, "You shall not go directly up; circle around behind them and come at them in front of the balsam trees.

2323 And when David inquired of the LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

2323 So David inquired of the Lord, and He answered, "Do not make a frontal assault. Circle around behind them and attack them opposite the balsam trees.

2323 When David asked the LORD about it, he said, "Don't attack them directly. Instead, go around to the rear and attack them opposite those balsam trees.

2323 When David inquired of the Lord, He said, You shall not go up, but go around behind them and come upon them over opposite the mulberry (or balsam) trees.

2424 "It shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then you shall act promptly, for then the LORD will have gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines."

2424 And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.

2424 When you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, act decisively, for then the Lord will have marched out ahead of you to attack the camp of the Philistines."

2424 When you hear the sound of marching coming from the tops of the balsam trees, then be sure to act quickly, since the LORD will have gone out ahead of you to cut down the Philistine army."

2424 And when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then bestir yourselves, for then has the Lord gone out before you to smite the army of the Philistines.

2525 Then David did so, just as the LORD had commanded him, and struck down the Philistines from Geba as far as Gezer.

2525 And David did so, as the LORD had commanded him; and smote the Philistines from Geba until thou come to Gazer.

2525 So David did exactly as the Lord commanded him, and he struck down the Philistines all the way from Geba to Gezer.

2525 So David did exactly what the LORD ordered him to do, and he struck down the Philistines from Geba to Gezer.

2525 And David did as the Lord had commanded him, and smote the Philistines from Geba to Gezer.
