Preaching In Iconium

1 At Iconium the Apostles went together to the Jewish synagogue and preached, with the result that a great number both of Jews and Greeks believed.

1 In (A)Iconium (B)they entered the synagogue of the Jews together, and spoke in such a manner (C)that a large number of people believed, both of Jews and of (D)Greeks.

1 And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

1 The same thing happened in Iconium; they entered the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed.(A)

1 In Iconium, Paul and Barnabas went into the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed.

2 But the Jews who had refused obedience stirred up the Gentiles and embittered their minds against the brethren.

2 But (E)the Jews who (a)(F)disbelieved stirred up the (b)minds of the Gentiles and embittered them against (G)the brethren.

2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.

2 But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up and poisoned the minds of the Gentiles against the brothers.(B)

2 But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.

3 Yet Paul and Barnabas remained there for a considerable time, speaking freely and relying on the Lord, while He bore witness to the Message of His grace by permitting signs and marvels to be done by them.

3 Therefore they spent a long time there (H)speaking boldly with reliance upon the Lord, who was testifying to the word of His grace, granting that (c)(I)signs and wonders be done by their hands.

3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

3 So they stayed there for some time and spoke boldly in reliance on the Lord, who testified to the message of His grace by granting that signs and wonders be performed through them.(C)

3 They stayed there a considerable time and continued to speak boldly for the Lord, who kept affirming his word of grace and granting signs and wonders to be done by them.

4 At length the people of the city split into parties, some siding with the Jews and some with the Apostles.

4 (J)But the (d)people of the city were divided; and some (e)sided with (K)the Jews, and some with (L)the apostles.

4 But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

4 But the people of the city were divided, some siding with the Jews and some with the apostles.(D)

4 But the people of the city were divided. Some were with the Jews, while others were with the apostles.

5 And when a hostile movement was made by both Gentiles and Jews, with the sanction of their magistrates, to maltreat and stone them,

5 And when an attempt was made by both the Gentiles and (M)the Jews with their rulers, to mistreat and to (N)stone them,

5 And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,

5 When an attempt was made by both the Gentiles and Jews, with their rulers, to assault and stone them,

5 Now when an attempt was made by both gentiles and Jews, along with their authorities, to mistreat and stone them,

6 the Apostles, having become aware of it, made their escape into the Lycaonian towns of Lystra and Derbe, and the neighbouring country.

6 they became aware of it and fled to the cities of (O)Lycaonia, (P)Lystra and (Q)Derbe, and the surrounding region;

6 They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:

6 they found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian towns called Lystra and Derbe, and to the surrounding countryside.(E)

6 Paul and Barnabas found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian towns of Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding territory.

7 And there they continued to tell the Good News.

7 and there they continued to (R)preach the gospel.

7 And there they preached the gospel.

7 And there they kept evangelizing.(F)

7 There they kept talking about the good news.

Mistaken For Gods In Lystra

8 Now a man who had no power in his feet used to sit in the streets of Lystra. He had been lame from his birth and had never walked.

8 At (S)Lystra (T)a man was sitting who had no strength in his feet, lame from his mother’s womb, who had never walked.

8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked:

8 In Lystra a man without strength in his feet, lame from birth,(a) and who had never walked, sat

8 Now in Lystra there was a man sitting down who couldn't use his feet. He had been crippled from birth and had never walked.

9 After this man had listened to one of Paul's sermons, the Apostle, looking steadily at him and perceiving that he had faith to be cured,

9 This man was listening to Paul as he spoke, who, (U)when he had fixed his gaze on him and had seen that he had (V)faith to be (f)made well,

9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

9 and heard Paul speaking. After observing him closely and seeing that he had faith to be healed,

9 He was listening to Paul as he spoke. Paul watched him closely, and when he saw that he had faith to be healed,

10 said in a loud voice, "Stand upright upon your feet!"

10 said with a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet.” (W)And he leaped up and began to walk.

10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

10 Paul said in a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet!” And he jumped up and started to walk around.(G)

10 he said in a loud voice, "Stand up straight on your feet!" Then the man jumped up and began to walk.

11 So he sprang up and began to walk about. Then the crowds, seeing what Paul had done, rent the air with their shouts in the Lycaonian language, saying, "The gods have assumed human form and have come down to us."

11 When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they raised their voice, saying in the (X)Lycaonian language, “(Y)The gods have become like men and have come down to us.”

11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.

11 When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they raised their voices, saying in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have come down to us in the form of men!”(H)

11 When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they shouted in the Lycaonian language, "The gods have become like men and have come down to us!"

12 They called Barnabas 'Zeus,' and Paul, as being the principal speaker, 'Hermes.'

12 And they began calling Barnabas, (g)Zeus, and Paul, (h)Hermes, because he was (i)the chief speaker.

12 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.

12 And they started to call Barnabas, Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the main speaker.

12 They began to call Barnabas Zeus, and Paul Hermes, because he was the main speaker.

13 And the priest of Zeus--the temple of Zeus being at the entrance to the city--brought bullocks and garlands to the gates, and in company with the crowd was intending to offer sacrifices to them.

13 The priest of Zeus, whose temple was (j)just outside the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and (Z)wanted to offer sacrifice with the crowds.

13 Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.

13 Then the priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the town, brought oxen and garlands to the gates. He, with the crowds, intended to offer sacrifice.

13 The priest of the temple of Zeus, which was just outside the city, brought bulls and garlands to the gates. He and the crowds wanted to offer sacrifices.

14 But the Apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it; and tearing their clothes they rushed out into the middle of the crowd, exclaiming, "Sirs, why are you doing all this?

14 But when (AA)the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they (AB)tore their (k)robes and rushed out into the crowd, crying out

14 Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

14 The apostles Barnabas and Paul tore their robes when they heard this and rushed into the crowd, shouting:(I)

14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they tore their clothes and rushed out into the crowd, shouting,

15 We also are but men, with natures kindred to your own; and we bring you the Good News that you are to turn from these unreal things, to worship the ever-living God, the Creator of earth and sky and sea and of everything that is in them.

15 and saying, “Men, why are you doing these things? We are also (AC)men of the same nature as you, and (AD)preach the gospel to you that you should turn from these (l)(AE)vain things to a (AF)living God, (AG)who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them.

15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

15 “Men! Why are you doing these things? We are men also, with the same nature as you, and we are proclaiming good news to you, that you should turn from these worthless things(J) to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and everything in them.(K)(b)

15 "Men, why are you doing this? We are merely human beings with natures like yours. We are telling you the good news so you'll turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them.

16 In times gone by He allowed all the nations to go their own ways;

16 (m)In the generations gone by He (AH)permitted all the (n)nations to (AI)go their own ways;

16 Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways.

16 In past generations He allowed all the nations(L) to go their own way,

16 In past generations he allowed all the nations to go their own ways,

17 and yet by His beneficence He has not left His existence unattested--His beneficence, I mean, in sending you rain from Heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and joyfulness."

17 and yet (AJ)He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good and (AK)gave you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, (o)satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.”

17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

17 although He did not leave Himself without a witness,(M) since He did what is good by giving you rain from heaven and fruitful seasons(N) and satisfying your(c) hearts with food and happiness.”

17 yet he has not abandoned his witness: he continues to do good, to give you rain from heaven, to give you fruitful seasons, and to fill you with food and your hearts with joy."

18 Even with words like these they had difficulty in preventing the thronging crowd from offering sacrifices to them.

18 Even saying these things, with difficulty they restrained the crowds from offering sacrifice to them.

18 And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.

18 Even though they said these things, they barely stopped the crowds from sacrificing to them.

18 Even by saying this, it was all Paul and Barnabas could do to keep the crowds from offering sacrifices to them.

Paul Stoned At Lystra

19 But now a party of Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and, having won over the crowd, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the town, believing him to be dead.

19 But (AL)Jews came from (AM)Antioch and (AN)Iconium, and having won over the crowds, they (AO)stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead.

19 And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.

19 Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and when they had won over the crowds and stoned Paul, they dragged him out of the city, thinking he was dead.(O)

19 But some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won over the crowds by persuasion. They stoned Paul and dragged him out of the town, thinking he was dead.

20 When, however, the disciples had collected round him, he rose and went back into the town. The next day he went with Barnabas to Derbe;

20 But while (AP)the disciples stood around him, he got up and entered the city. The next day he went away with Barnabas to (AQ)Derbe.

20 Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

20 After the disciples surrounded him, he got up and went into the town. The next day he left with Barnabas for Derbe.(P)

20 But the disciples formed a circle around him, and he got up and went back to town. The next day, he went on with Barnabas to Derbe.

Paul And Barnabas Return To Antioch In Syria

21 and, after proclaiming the Good News to the people there and gaining a large number of converts, they retraced their steps to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch.

21 After they had (AR)preached the gospel to that city and had (AS)made many disciples, they returned to (AT)Lystra and to (AU)Iconium and to (AV)Antioch,

21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,

21 After they had evangelized that town and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, to Iconium, and to Antioch,(Q)

21 As they were proclaiming the good news in that city, they discipled a large number of people. Then they went back to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch,

22 Everywhere they strengthened the disciples by encouraging them to hold fast to the faith, and warned them saying, "It is through many afflictions that we must make our way into the Kingdom of God."

22 strengthening the souls of (AW)the disciples, encouraging them to continue in (AX)the faith, and saying, “(AY)Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.”

22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

22 strengthening the(d) disciples by encouraging them to continue in the faith(R) and by telling them, “It is necessary to pass through many troubles(S) on our way into the kingdom of God.”

22 strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to continue in the faith. "We must endure many hardships," they said, "to get into the kingdom of God."

23 And in every Church, after prayer and fasting, they selected Elders by show of hands, and commended them to the Lord on whom their faith rested.

23 When (AZ)they had appointed (BA)elders for them in every church, having (BB)prayed with fasting, they (BC)commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed.

23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

23 When they had appointed elders(T) in every church and prayed with fasting, they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed.

23 Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church, and with prayer and fasting they entrusted them to the Lord in whom they had believed.

24 Then passing through Pisidia they came into Pamphylia;

24 They passed through (BD)Pisidia and came into (BE)Pamphylia.

24 And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.

24 Then they passed through Pisidia and came to Pamphylia.

24 Then they passed through Pisidia and came to Pamphylia.

25 and after telling the Message at Perga they came down to Attaleia.

25 When they had spoken the word in (BF)Perga, they went down to Attalia.

25 And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:

25 After they spoke the message in Perga, they went down to Attalia.

25 They spoke the word in Perga and went down to Attalia.

26 Thence they sailed to Antioch, where they had previously been commended to the grace of God in connexion with the work which they had now completed.

26 From there they sailed to (BG)Antioch, from (BH)which they had been (BI)commended to the grace of God for the work that they had (p)accomplished.

26 And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.

26 From there they sailed back to Antioch where they had been entrusted to the grace of God for the work they had now completed.(U)

26 From there they sailed back to Antioch, where they had been entrusted to the grace of God for the work they had completed.

27 Upon their arrival they called the Church together and proceeded to report in detail all that God, working with them, had done, and how He had opened for the Gentiles the door of faith.

27 When they had arrived and gathered the church together, they began to (BJ)report all things that God had done with them and (q)how He had opened a (BK)door of faith to the Gentiles.

27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

27 After they arrived and gathered the church together, they reported everything God had done with them(V) and that He had opened the door(W) of faith to the Gentiles.

27 When they arrived, they called the church together and told them everything that God had done with them and how he had opened a door so that gentiles would believe.

28 And they remained a considerable time in Antioch with the disciples.

28 And they spent (r)a long time with (BL)the disciples.

28 And there they abode long time with the disciples.

28 And they spent a considerable time(e) with the disciples.

28 Then they spent a long time with the disciples.
