And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.
But when they heard this, they were
cut to the quick and intended to kill them.
Now when they heard this, they were
cut to the quick, and they began gnashing their teeth at him.
It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the head of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign the members of his household!
and the rest seized his slaves and mistreated them and killed them.
“ Therefore, behold, I am sending you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city,
For this reason also the wisdom of God said, ‘ I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and some they will persecute,
Remember the word that I said to you, ‘ A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also.
They will make you outcasts from the synagogue, but an hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering service to God.
praising God and
having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.
This is the one who was in
the congregation in the wilderness together with the angel who was speaking to him on Mount Sinai, and who was with our fathers; and he received living oracles to pass on to you.
news about them reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas off to Antioch.
Now there were at
Antioch, in the church that was there, prophets and teachers: Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
who had been scattered went about preaching the word.
So then those who were scattered because of the persecution that occurred in connection with Stephen made their way to Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except to Jews alone.
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.
Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances
have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel,
the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent them Peter and John,
but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
that city many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “ He told me all the things that I have done.”
They laid hands on the apostles and
put them in a public jail.
Then Pharaoh said to him, “
Get away from me! Beware, do not see my face again, for in the day you see my face you shall die!”
So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?”
Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter.
Now when Daniel knew that the document was signed, he entered his house (now in his roof chamber he had windows open
toward Jerusalem); and he continued kneeling on his knees three times a day, praying and giving thanks before his God, as he had been doing previously.
By faith he
left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing Him who is unseen.
