⁷ And from thence they departed unto Gudgodah: and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of rivers of water. ⁸ And the same season the LORD separated the tribe of Levi to bear the ark of the covenant of the LORD and to stand before the LORD, and to minister unto him and to bless in his name unto this day. ⁹ Wherefore the Levites have no part nor inheritance with their brethren. The LORD he is their inheritance, as the LORD thy God hath promised them.

Deuteronomy 18:5

For the LORD thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes to stand and to minister in the name of the LORD: both him and his sons forever.

Deuteronomy 21:5
