Water From The Rock

1 And all the assembly of the sons of Israel will remove from the desert of Sin, according to their removings by the mouth of Jehovah; and they will encamp in Rephidim; and no water for the people to drink.

1 And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.

1 Then all the congregation of the sons of Israel journeyed by (a)stages from the wilderness of (A)Sin, according to the (b)command of the Lord, and camped at (B)Rephidim, and there was no water for the people to drink.

1 The entire Israelite community left the Wilderness of Sin, moving from one place to the next according to the Lord’s command. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.(A)

1 The whole congregation of the Israelis set out from the desert of Sin, traveling from place to place according to the command of the LORD. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.

2 And the people contended with Moses, and they will say, Give to us water and we will drink. And Moses will say to them, Why will ye contend with me, and why will ye tempt Jehovah?

2 Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?

2 Therefore the people (C)quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water that we may drink.” And Moses said to them, “(D)Why do you quarrel with me? (E)Why do you test the Lord?”

2 So the people complained to Moses, “Give us water to drink.”“Why are you complaining to me?” Moses replied to them. “Why are you testing(B) the Lord?”

2 The people quarreled with Moses: "Give us water to drink." Moses told them, "Why are you quarreling with me? Why are you testing the LORD?"

3 And the people will thirst there for water; and the people will murmur against Moses, and will say, For what this did ye bring us up out of Egypt to kill us and our sons and our cattle with thirst?

3 And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?

3 But the people thirsted there for water; and (c)they (F)grumbled against Moses and said, “Why, now, have you brought us up from Egypt, to kill (d)us and (e)our children and (f)(G)our livestock with thirst?”

3 But the people thirsted there for water, and grumbled against Moses. They said, “Why did you ever bring us out of Egypt to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”(C)

3 But the people were thirsty there for water, so they complained against Moses: "Why did you bring us up from Egypt to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?"

4 And Moses will cry to Jehovah, saying, What shall I do to this people? yet a little and they will stone me.

4 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.

4 So Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “What shall I do to this people? A (H)little more and they will stone me.”

4 Then Moses cried out to the Lord, “What should I do with these people? In a little while they will stone me!”(D)

4 So Moses cried out to the LORD: "What am I to do with these people? Just a little more and they'll stone me."

5 And Jehovah will say to Moses, Pass over before the people and take with thee from the old men of Israel; and thy rod which thou didst strike with it the river, take in thy hand and go.

5 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.

5 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pass before the people and take with you some of (I)the elders of Israel; and take in your hand your staff with which (J)you struck the Nile, and go.

5 The Lord answered Moses, “Go on ahead of the people and take some of the elders of Israel with you. Take the staff you struck the Nile with in your hand and go.

5 Then the LORD told Moses, "Go over in front of the people and take some of the elders of Israel with you. Take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go.

6 And behold, I stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and strike upon the rock, and waters shall come forth from it, and the people drank. And Moses will do so before the eyes of the old men of Israel.

6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

6 Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at (K)Horeb; and (L)you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

6 I am going to stand there in front of you on the rock at Horeb; when you hit the rock, water(E) will come out of it and the people will drink.” Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.

6 I'll be standing there in front of you on the rock at Horeb. You are to strike the rock and water will come out of it, so the people can drink." Moses did this in front of the elders of Israel.

7 And he will call the name of the place, Temptation, and Strife, for the contention of the sons of Israel, and because they tempted Jehovah, saying, Is Jehovah in the midst of us or not?

7 And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?

7 He named the place (g)(M)Massah and (h)(N)Meribah because of the quarrel of the sons of Israel, and because they (O)tested the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us, or not?”

7 He named the place Massah(a) and Meribah(b)(F) because the Israelites complained, and because they tested the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”

7 He named the place Massah and Meribah, because the Israelis quarreled and tested the LORD by saying: "Is the LORD really among us or not?"

Battle With The Amalekites

8 And Amalek will come and will wage war with Israel, in Rephidim.

8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

8 Then (P)Amalek came and fought against Israel at (Q)Rephidim.

8 At Rephidim, Amalek(c)(G) came and fought against Israel.

8 After this, the Amalekites came and fought with the Israelis at Rephidim.

9 And Moses will say to Joshua, Choose to us men, and go forth, wage war with Amalek: to-morrow I stand upon the head of the hill and the rod of God in my band.

9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.

9 So Moses said to (R)Joshua, “Choose men for us and go out, fight against Amalek. Tomorrow I will station myself on the top of the hill with (S)the staff of God in my hand.”

9 Moses said to Joshua,(H) “Select some men for us and go fight against Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the hilltop with God’s staff in my hand.”

9 Moses told Joshua, "Choose some men for us and go out to fight against the Amalekites. Tomorrow I'll stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand."

10 And Joshua will do as Moses said to him to wage war with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron and Hur, went up to the head of the hill.

10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

10 Joshua did as Moses (i)told him, (j)and fought against Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and (T)Hur went up to the top of the hill.

10 Joshua did as Moses had told him, and fought against Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

10 So Joshua did as Moses told him and fought against the Amalekites, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

11 And it was as Moses will lift up his hand, Israel prevailed: and as he will put down his hand and Amalek prevailed.

11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.

11 So it came about when Moses held his hand up, that Israel prevailed, and when he let his hand (k)down, Amalek prevailed.

11 While Moses held up his hand,(d) Israel prevailed, but whenever he put his hand(e) down, Amalek prevailed.(I)

11 Whenever Moses raised his hand, the Israelis prevailed, but when his hand remained at his side, then the Amalekites prevailed.

12 And the hands of Moses were heavy; and they will take a stone and put under him, and he will sit upon it: and Aaron and Hur took hold upon his hands, one from here, and one from there; and his hands will be in firmness till the sun went forth.

12 But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

12 But Moses’ hands were heavy. Then they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it; and Aaron and Hur (U)supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other. Thus his hands were steady until the sun set.

12 When Moses’ hands grew heavy, they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat down on it. Then Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other so that his hands remained steady until the sun went down.

12 When Moses' hands became heavy, they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other, and so his hands were steady until the sun went down.

13 And Joshua will overthrow Amalek and his people with the mouth of the sword.

13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

13 So Joshua (l)overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

13 So Joshua defeated Amalek and his army(f) with the sword.

13 Joshua defeated Amalek and his army using swords.

14 And Jehovah will say to Moses, Write this a remembrance in the book, and set in the ears of Joshua: for wiping off I will wipe off the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens.

14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.

14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “(V)Write this in (m)a book as a memorial and (n)recite it to Joshua, (o)that (W)I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.”

14 The Lord then said to Moses, “Write this down on a scroll as a reminder and recite it to Joshua: I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek under heaven.”(J)

14 Then the LORD told Moses, "Write this in a book as a memorial and recite it to Joshua: "I'll certainly wipe out the memory of the Amalekites from under heaven.'"

15 And Moses will build an altar, and he will call its name, Jehovah my Standard.

15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:

15 Moses built an (X)altar and named it (Y)The Lord is My Banner;

15 And Moses built an altar(K) and named it, “The Lord Is My Banner.”(g)

15 Moses built an altar and named it "The LORD is My Banner."

16 For he will say, Because the hand upon the throne of Jehovah, war to Jehovah with Amalek from generation to generation.

16 For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.

16 and he said, “(p)(Z)The Lord has sworn; the Lord will have war against Amalek from generation to generation.”

16 He said, “Indeed, my hand is lifted up toward(h) the Lord’s throne. The Lord will be at war with Amalek from generation to generation.”

16 "Because," he said, "a fist has been raised in defiance against the throne of the LORD, the LORD will wage war against Amalek from generation to generation."
