2 Later, the woman became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She saw that he was a beautiful child, and hid him for three months.
2 The woman conceived and bore a son; and when she saw (b)that he was (c)(B)beautiful, she hid him for three months.

3 But when she was no longer able to hide him, she took a papyrus container, coated it with asphalt and pitch, placed the child in it, and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile.

3 And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.

5 ThenPharaoh's daughter came down to the Nile River to bathe while her maids walked along the river bank. She saw the container among the reeds and sent a servant girl to get it.
5 The daughter of Pharaoh came down (F)to bathe at the Nile, with her maidens walking alongside the Nile; and she saw the (h)basket among the reeds and sent her maid, and she brought it to her.
5 And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.
5 Pharaoh’s daughter went down to bathe at the Nile while her servant girls walked along the riverbank. Seeing the basket among the reeds, she sent her slave girl to get it.
6 When she opened it and saw the child, the little boy suddenly began crying. Filled with compassion for him, she exclaimed, "This is one of the Hebrew children!"

8 Pharaoh's daughter told her, "Go," so the young girl went and called the child's mother.

9 Pharaoh's daughter instructed her, "Take this child and nurse him for me, and I'll pay you a salary." So the woman took the child and nursed him.
9 Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him.
9 And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.

10 After the child had grown older, she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, because she said, "I drew him out of the water."

11 Years later, after Moses had grown up, he went out to his own people, and took notice of their heavy burdens. He saw an Egyptian beating up a Hebrew, one of his own people.
11 Now it came about in those days, (H)when Moses had grown up, that he went out to his brethren and looked on their (n)(I)hard labors; and (J)he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren.
11 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.
11 Years later,(c) after Moses had grown up, he went out to his own people(d) and observed their forced labor.(D) He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his people.
11 One day, after Moses had grown [into adulthood], it happened that he went to his countrymen and looked [with compassion] at their hard labors; and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his countrymen.
12 Looking around and seeing no one else, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.

13 And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?
13 The next day he went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He asked the one in the wrong, “Why are you attacking your neighbor?”(e)

14 The man replied, "Who appointed you to be an official judge over us? Are you planning to kill me like you killed the Egyptian?" Then Moses became terrified and told himself, "Certainly this event has become known!"
14 But he said, “(M)Who made you a (r)prince or a judge over us? Are you (s)intending to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and said, “Surely the matter has become known.”
14 And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.
14 “Who made you a leader and judge over us?” the man replied. “Are you planning to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?”Then Moses became afraid and thought: What I did is certainly known.
14 But the man said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Then Moses was afraid and said, “Certainly this incident is known.”
15 When Pharaoh heard about this matter, he tried to kill Moses. So Moses fled from Pharaoh, settled in the land of Midian, and sat down by a well.

16 Meanwhile, the seven daughters of a certain Midianite priest would come to draw water in order to fill water troughs for their father's sheep.

22 Later she gave birth to a son, and Moses named him Gershom, because he used to say, "I became an alien in a foreign land."

23 Now it came about in the course of those many days that the king of Egypt died. And the sons of Israel (X)sighed because of the bondage, and they cried out; and (Y)their cry for help because of their bondage rose up to God.
23 And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.
24 God heard their groaning and remembered his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
