1 The word of the LORD came again to me, saying,

1 This message came to me from the LORD:

2 "You, son of man, take up a lamentation over Tyre;

2 “And you, son of man, (A)take up a lamentation over Tyre;

2 Now, thou son of man, take up a lamentation for Tyrus;

2 “Now, son of man, lament for Tyre.(A)

2 "Son of Man, compose a mourning song for Tyre.

3 and tell Tyre, 'You who dwell at the entry of the sea, who are the merchant of the peoples to many islands, thus says the Lord GOD: "You, Tyre, have said, 'I am perfect in beauty.'

3 and say to Tyre, (B)who dwells at the (a)entrance to the sea, (C)merchant of the peoples to many coastlands, ‘Thus says the Lord (b)God,“O Tyre, you have said, ‘I am perfect in beauty.’

3 And say unto Tyrus, O thou that art situate at the entry of the sea, which art a merchant of the people for many isles, Thus saith the Lord GOD; O Tyrus, thou hast said, I am of perfect beauty.

3 Say to Tyre, who is located at the entrance of the sea, merchant of the peoples(B) to many coasts and islands: This is what the Lord God says:Tyre, you declared,‘I am perfect in beauty.’

3 Tell Tyre, who lives at the gateway to the Mediterranean Sea, who serves as the international merchant to many coastal districts: "This is what the Lord GOD says: "Tyre, you've been claiming, "I am beauty perfected.'

4 Your borders are in the heart of the seas; your builders have perfected your beauty.

4 “Your borders are in the heart of the seas;Your builders have perfected your beauty.

4 Thy borders are in the midst of the seas, thy builders have perfected thy beauty.

4 Your realm was in the heart of the sea;your builders perfected your beauty.

4 You've set your national boundary in international waters. Your builders made you downright beautiful!"'"

5 They have made all your planks of fir trees from Senir; they have taken a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you.

5 “They have (c)made all your planks of fir trees from (D)Senir;They have taken a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you.

5 They have made all thy ship boards of fir trees of Senir: they have taken cedars from Lebanon to make masts for thee.

5 They constructed all your plankingwith pine trees from Senir.(a)(C)They took a cedar from Lebanonto make a mast for you.

5 "They brought in a ship made with pine planking from Senir, configured with a mast carved from a cedar from Lebanon,

6 Of the oaks of Bashan have they made your oars; they have made your benches of ivory inlaid in boxwood, from the islands of Kittim.

6 “Of (E)oaks from (F)Bashan they have made your oars;With ivory they have (d)inlaid your deck of boxwood from the coastlands of (G)Cyprus.

6 Of the oaks of Bashan have they made thine oars; the company of the Ashurites have made thy benches of ivory, brought out of the isles of Chittim.

6 They made your oars of oaks from Bashan.They made your deck of cypress woodfrom the coasts of Cyprus,(D)inlaid with ivory.

6 equipped with oars made from oaks from Bashan, with ivory-inlaid cypress wood decking imported from the coastlands of Cypress,

7 Of fine linen with embroidered work from Egypt was your sail, that it might be to you for a banner; blue and purple from the islands of Elishah was your awning.

7 “Your sail was of fine embroidered linen from EgyptSo that it became your (e)distinguishing mark;Your (f)awning was (g)(H)blue and purple from the coastlands of (I)Elishah.

7 Fine linen with broidered work from Egypt was that which thou spreadest forth to be thy sail; blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was that which covered thee.

7 Your sail was made offine embroidered linen from Egypt,and served as your banner.Your awning was of blue and purple fabricfrom the coasts of Elishah.

7 with sails made with embroidered Egyptian linen, festooned with blue banners, and with your sun shades made with purple cloth from Cypress.

8 The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were your rowers: your wise men, Tyre, were in you, they were your pilots.

8 “The inhabitants of Sidon and (J)Arvad were your rowers;Your (K)wise men, O Tyre, were (h)aboard; they were your pilots.

8 The inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad were thy mariners: thy wise men, O Tyrus, that were in thee, were thy pilots.

8 The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad(E)were your rowers.Your wise men were within you, Tyre;they were your captains.

8 Your sailors were conscripted from Sidon and Arvad, and your officers served aboard as pilots.

9 The old men of Gebal and the wise men of it were in you your repairers of ship seams: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in you to deal in your merchandise.

9 “The elders of (L)Gebal and her wise men were with you repairing your seams;All the ships of the sea and their sailors were with you in order to deal in your merchandise.

9 The ancients of Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee thy calkers: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee to occupy thy merchandise.

9 The elders of Gebal and its wise men(F)were within you, repairing your leaks.All the ships of the sea and their sailorscame to(b) you to barter for your goods.

9 The wise men and elders from Gebal accompanied you, serving as ship's carpenters. All the maritime navies and their seaman also accompanied you to assist you in doing business internationally."

10 Persia and Lud and Put were in your army, your men of war: they hanged the shield and helmet in you; they set forth your comeliness.

10 (M)Persia and (N)Lud and (O)Put were in your army, your men of war. They hung shield and helmet in you; they set forth your splendor.

10 They of Persia and of Lud and of Phut were in thine army, thy men of war: they hanged the shield and helmet in thee; they set forth thy comeliness.

10 Men of Persia, Lud, and Put(G)were in your army, serving as your warriors.They hung shields and helmets in you;they gave you splendor.

10 "Soldiers from Persia, Lud, and Libya, served in your army. They were your mighty soldiers. Their helmets and shields adorned your barracks walls, and they won battle decorations for you.

11 The men of Arvad with your army were on your walls all around, and valorous men were in your towers; they hanged their shields on your walls all around; they have perfected your beauty.

11 The sons of Arvad and your army were on your walls, all around, and the (i)Gammadim were in your towers. They hung their shields on your walls all around; they perfected your beauty.

11 The men of Arvad with thine army were upon thy walls round about, and the Gammadims were in thy towers: they hanged their shields upon thy walls round about; they have made thy beauty perfect.

11 Men of Arvad and Helechwere stationed on your walls all around,and Gammadites were in your towers.They hung their shields(c) all around your walls;they perfected your beauty.

11 Mercenaries from Arvad and Helech stood guard duty on your walls, while brave men manned your towers. They hung their shields all around your walls just the right touch to perfect your interior decorating!"

12 Tarshish was your merchant by reason of the multitude of all kinds of riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded for your wares.

12 “Tarshish was your customer because of the abundance of all kinds of wealth; with silver, iron, tin and lead they paid for your wares.

12 Tarshish was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of all kind of riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded in thy fairs.

12 “Tarshish(H) was your trading partner because of your great wealth of every kind. They exchanged silver, iron, tin, and lead for your merchandise.

12 "Tarshish was your business partner because of your phenomenal wealth. They traded silver, iron, tin, and lead for your merchandise.

13 Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, they were your traffickers; they traded the persons of men and vessels of brass for your merchandise.

13 (P)Javan, (Q)Tubal and (R)Meshech, they were your traders; with the (S)lives of men and vessels of bronze they paid for your merchandise.

13 Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, they were thy merchants: they traded the persons of men and vessels of brass in thy market.

13 Javan, Tubal, and Meshech(I) were your merchants. They exchanged slaves(d) and bronze utensils for your goods.

13 Greece, Tubal, and Meshech bartered with you, exchanging slaves and bronze vessels for your wares.

14 They of the house of Togarmah traded for your wares with horses and war horses and mules.

14 Those from (T)Beth-togarmah gave horses and war horses and mules for your wares.

14 They of the house of Togarmah traded in thy fairs with horses and horsemen and mules.

14 Those from Beth-togarmah(J) exchanged horses, war horses, and mules for your merchandise.

14 Beth-togarmah traded horses, war horses, and mules in exchange for what you had to sell.

15 The men of Dedan were your traffickers; many islands were the market of your hand: they brought you in exchange horns of ivory and ebony.

15 The sons of (U)Dedan were your traders. Many coastlands were (j)your market; (V)ivory tusks and ebony they brought as your payment.

15 The men of Dedan were thy merchants; many isles were the merchandise of thine hand: they brought thee for a present horns of ivory and ebony.

15 Men of Dedan(e)(K) were also your merchants; many coasts and islands were your regular markets. They brought back ivory tusks(L) and ebony as your payment.

15 Men from the low country south of Edom and many of the coastlands were your markets for ivory tusks and ebony that they brought to trade with you.

16 Syria was your merchant by reason of the multitude of your handiworks: they traded for your wares with emeralds, purple, and embroidered work, and fine linen, and coral, and rubies.

16 (W)Aram was your customer because of the abundance of your (k)goods; they paid for your wares with (X)emeralds, purple, (Y)embroidered work, fine linen, coral and rubies.

16 Syria was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of the wares of thy making: they occupied in thy fairs with emeralds, purple, and broidered work, and fine linen, and coral, and agate.

16 Aram(f)(g) was your trading partner because of your numerous products. They exchanged turquoise,(h) purple and embroidered cloth, fine linen, coral,(i) and rubies(j) for your merchandise.

16 "Aram was one of your customers because you had so much merchandise. They paid by trading turquoise, purple yarn, embroidered goods, Egyptian linen, coral, and rubies.

17 Judah, and the land of Israel, they were your traffickers: they traded for your merchandise wheat of Minnith, and confections, and honey, and oil, and balm.

17 Judah and the land of Israel, they were your traders; with the wheat of (Z)Minnith, (l)cakes, honey, oil and balm they paid for your merchandise.

17 Judah, and the land of Israel, they were thy merchants: they traded in thy market wheat of Minnith, and Pannag, and honey, and oil, and balm.

17 Judah and the land of Israel were your merchants. They exchanged wheat from Minnith,(M) meal,(k) honey, oil, and balm, for your goods.

17 The territories of Judah and Israel were your clients, too. They traded wheat from their distribution centers, baked goods, honey, oil, and ointments for your merchandise.

18 Damascus was your merchant for the multitude of your handiworks, by reason of the multitude of all kinds of riches, with the wine of Helbon, and white wool.

18 (AA)Damascus was your customer because of the abundance of your (m)goods, because of the abundance of all kinds of wealth, because of the wine of Helbon and white wool.

18 Damascus was thy merchant in the multitude of the wares of thy making, for the multitude of all riches; in the wine of Helbon, and white wool.

18 Damascus was also your trading partner because of your numerous products and your great wealth of every kind, trading in wine from Helbon and white wool.(l)

18 "Because you have so much to sell and are so rich, Damascus has been your trading partner, exchanging wine from Helbon, unbleached wool,

19 Vedan and Javan traded with yarn for your wares: bright iron, cassia, and calamus, were among your merchandise.

19 Vedan and Javan paid for your wares (n)from Uzal; wrought iron, cassia and (o)sweet cane were among your merchandise.

19 Dan also and Javan going to and fro occupied in thy fairs: bright iron, cassia, and calamus, were in thy market.

19 Vedan(m) and Javan from Uzal(n)(N) dealt in your merchandise; wrought iron, cassia,(O) and aromatic cane were exchanged for your goods.

19 and casks of wine from Izal for your wrought iron, cassia wood, and aromatic reeds.

20 Dedan was your trafficker in precious cloths for riding.

20 (AB)Dedan traded with you in saddlecloths for riding.

20 Dedan was thy merchant in precious clothes for chariots.

20 Dedan(P) was your merchant in saddlecloths for riding.

20 "Dedan traded with you, exchanging riding blankets.

21 Arabia, and all the princes of Kedar, they were the merchants of your hand; in lambs, and rams, and goats, in these were they your merchants.

21 (AC)Arabia and all the princes of Kedar, they were (p)your customers for (AD)lambs, rams and goats; for these they were your customers.

21 Arabia, and all the princes of Kedar, they occupied with thee in lambs, and rams, and goats: in these were they thy merchants.

21 Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were your business(o) partners, trading with you in lambs, rams, and goats.

21 Arabia, including all the princes of Kedar, came to you, shopping for lambs, rams, and goats.

22 The traffickers of Sheba and Raamah, they were your traffickers; they traded for your wares with the chief of all spices, and with all precious stones, and gold.

22 The traders of (AE)Sheba and Raamah, they traded with you; they paid for your wares with the best of all kinds of (AF)spices, and with all kinds of precious stones and gold.

22 The merchants of Sheba and Raamah, they were thy merchants: they occupied in thy fairs with chief of all spices, and with all precious stones, and gold.

22 The merchants of Sheba(Q) and Raamah traded with you. They exchanged gold, the best of all spices, and all kinds of precious stones for your merchandise.(R)

22 Traders from Sheba and Raamah paid for the best of what you had to offer with all types of spices, precious stones, and gold.

23 Haran and Canneh and Eden, the traffickers of Sheba, Asshur and Chilmad, were your traffickers.

23 Haran, Canneh, (AG)Eden, the traders of Sheba, Asshur and Chilmad traded with you.

23 Haran, and Canneh, and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad, were thy merchants.

23 Haran, Canneh, Eden,(S) the merchants of Sheba, Asshur,(T) and Chilmad traded with you.

23 Haran, Canneh, Eden, merchants from Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad did business with you,

24 These were your traffickers in choice wares, in wrappings of blue and embroidered work, and in chests of rich clothing, bound with cords and made of cedar, among your merchandise.

24 They traded with you in choice garments, in clothes of (q)blue and embroidered work, and in carpets of many colors and tightly wound cords, which were among your merchandise.

24 These were thy merchants in all sorts of things, in blue clothes, and broidered work, and in chests of rich apparel, bound with cords, and made of cedar, among thy merchandise.

24 They were your merchants in choice garments, cloaks of blue and embroidered materials, and multicolored carpets,(p) which were bound and secured with cords in your marketplace.

24 trading garments made into the finest blue and embroidered mantels, and also multi-colored carpets, ropes, and other merchandise.

25 The ships of Tarshish were your caravans for your merchandise: and you were replenished, and made very glorious in the heart of the seas.

25 The (AH)ships of Tarshish were (r)the carriers for your merchandise.And you were filled and were very (s)gloriousIn the heart of the seas.

25 The ships of Tarshish did sing of thee in thy market: and thou wast replenished, and made very glorious in the midst of the seas.

25 Ships of Tarshish(U) were the carriers for your goods.So you became full and heavily loaded(q)in the heart of the sea.

25 Ocean-going fleets carried your merchandise." "How filled you were! How glorious you were, at home in the heart of the sea!

The Destruction Of Tyre

26 "'"Your rowers have brought you into great waters: the east wind has broken you in the heart of the seas.

26 “Your rowers have brought youInto (AI)great waters;The (AJ)east wind has broken youIn the heart of the seas.

26 Thy rowers have brought thee into great waters: the east wind hath broken thee in the midst of the seas.

26 Your rowers have brought youonto the high seas,(V)but the east wind has shattered youin the heart of the sea.

26 But your rowers have brought you into dangerous waters. The east wind has broken you in the heart of the ocean!

27 Your riches, and your wares, your merchandise, your mariners, and your pilots, your repairers of ship seams, and the dealers in your merchandise, and all your men of war, who are in you, with all your company which is in the midst of you, shall fall into the heart of the seas in the day of your ruin.

27 “Your wealth, your wares, your merchandise,Your sailors and your pilots,Your repairers of seams, your dealers in merchandiseAnd all your men of war who are in you,With all your company that is in your midst,Will fall into the heart of the seasOn the day of your overthrow.

27 Thy riches, and thy fairs, thy merchandise, thy mariners, and thy pilots, thy calkers, and the occupiers of thy merchandise, and all thy men of war, that are in thee, and in all thy company which is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the midst of the seas in the day of thy ruin.

27 Your wealth, merchandise, and goods,your sailors and captains,those who repair your leaks,those who barter for your goods,and all the warriors within you,with all the other people on board,(r)sink into the heart of the seaon the day of your downfall.

27 Your wealth, your products, your merchandise your sailors, your pilots, your tailors, your salesmen, all your mercenaries with you your entire company with you will fall into the midst of the sea on the day when you're overthrown!

28 At the sound of the cry of your pilots the suburbs shall shake.

28 “At the sound of the cry of your pilotsThe pasture lands will (AK)shake.

28 The suburbs shall shake at the sound of the cry of thy pilots.

28 The countryside shakesat the sound of your sailors’ cries.(W)

28 When your ships' captains cry out, the pasturelands along the coast will cry out!

29 All who handled the oar, the mariners, and all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships; they shall stand on the land,

29 “All who handle the oar,The (AL)sailors and all the pilots of the seaWill come down from their ships;They will stand on the land,

29 And all that handle the oar, the mariners, and all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships, they shall stand upon the land;

29 All those who handle an oardisembark from their ships.The sailors and all the captains of the seastand on the shore.

29 Everyone who handles an oar will abandon ship, they'll head straight for dry land,

30 and shall cause their voice to be heard over you, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust on their heads, they shall wallow themselves in the ashes:

30 And they will (AM)make their voice heard over youAnd will cry bitterly.They will (AN)cast dust on their heads,They will (AO)wallow in ashes.

30 And shall cause their voice to be heard against thee, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust upon their heads, they shall wallow themselves in the ashes:

30 They raise their voices over youand cry out bitterly.They throw dust on their heads;(X)they roll in ashes.

30 and they will cry so loud you won't be able to make yourself heard! How bitterly they'll cry! They'll throw dust on their heads and wallow in ashes.

31 and they shall make themselves bald for you, and clothe them with sackcloth, and they shall weep for you in bitterness of soul with bitter mourning.

31 “Also they will make themselves (AP)bald for youAnd (AQ)gird themselves with sackcloth;And they will (AR)weep for you in bitterness of soulWith bitter mourning.

31 And they shall make themselves utterly bald for thee, and gird them with sackcloth, and they shall weep for thee with bitterness of heart and bitter wailing.

31 They shave their heads because of youand wrap themselves in sackcloth.They weep over youwith deep anguish and bitter mourning.

31 They'll shave their heads bald because of you. They'll dress themselves in sackcloth and weep for you with deep bitterness of heart, with the most pitiful of mourning.

32 In their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for you, and lament over you, saying, 'Who is there like Tyre, like her who is brought to silence in the midst of the sea?'

32 “Moreover, in their wailing they will take up a (AS)lamentation for youAnd lament over you:‘Who is like Tyre,Like her who is silent in the midst of the sea?

32 And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and lament over thee, saying, What city is like Tyrus, like the destroyed in the midst of the sea?

32 In their wailing they lament for you,(Y)mourning over you:Who was like Tyre,silenced(s) in the middle of the sea?

32 In the depth of their despair they'll compose a lament for you. This is what they'll say: "Who is like Tyre? Who is so silent in the midst of the sea?'

33 When your wares went forth out of the seas, you filled many peoples; you enriched the kings of the earth with the multitude of your riches and of your merchandise.

33 ‘When your wares went out from the seas,You satisfied many peoples;With the (AT)abundance of your wealth and your merchandiseYou enriched the kings of earth.

33 When thy wares went forth out of the seas, thou filledst many people; thou didst enrich the kings of the earth with the multitude of thy riches and of thy merchandise.

33 When your merchandise was unloaded from the seas,you satisfied many peoples.You enriched the kings of the earthwith your abundant wealth and goods.

33 Your merchandise went out over the oceans to satisfy many nations; with the abundance of your wealth you enriched the kings of the earth.

34 In the time that you were broken by the seas in the depths of the waters, your merchandise and all your company fell in your midst.

34 (t)Now that you are (AU)broken by the seasIn the depths of the waters,Your (AV)merchandise and all your companyHave fallen in the midst of you.

34 In the time when thou shalt be broken by the seas in the depths of the waters thy merchandise and all thy company in the midst of thee shall fall.

34 Now you are shattered by the seain the depths of the waters;your goods and the people within youhave gone down.

34 "But now it's your time to be wrecked at the bottom of the sea! Your products and your workers have sunk, and so have you!

35 All the inhabitants of the islands are astonished at you, and their kings are horribly afraid; they are troubled in their face.

35 ‘All the (AW)inhabitants of the coastlandsAre appalled at you,And their kings are horribly afraid;They are troubled in countenance.

35 All the inhabitants of the isles shall be astonished at thee, and their kings shall be sore afraid, they shall be troubled in their countenance.

35 All the inhabitants of the coasts and islandsare appalled(Z) at you.Their kings shudder with fear;their faces are contorted.

35 Everyone who lives by the sea is appalled at your destruction. Their leaders are terrified their faces reflect their fears!

36 The merchants among the peoples hiss at you; you are become a terror, and you shall nevermore have any being."'"

36 ‘The merchants among the peoples (AX)hiss at you;You have become (u)terrifiedAnd you (AY)will cease to be forever.’”’”

36 The merchants among the people shall hiss at thee; thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt be any more.

36 Those who trade among the peoplesmock(t)(AA) you;you have become an object of horrorand will never exist again.”(AB)

36 Traders circulate among the people, hissing at you. What a horror you've become! Now you will cease to exist forever and ever!"
